Hi all

I am thinking of getting an R3 soon and I'd like to know what cable I need to record the audio (not midi) from my R3 to PC at best possible quality. I read somewhere that there is no digital output, and the usb only supports midi and I wasn't sure what exactly that meant so I needed to ask.

Sorry for the extremely noob question. I just need to know if it's possible to record the audio as played (any sound I make on the R3 including those using the vocoder, mod sequencer, arpeggiator etc.), in high quality for use in ableton and cubase.

Thanks

It will depend on what type of output jacks the R3 has, and what type of soundcard/interface your PC has, but most likely you'll need two mono 6.5mm phono plugs on one end, and a stereo 3.5mm phono plug on the other.

My soundcard is M-Audio Fastrack Pro USB:

full specifications:

The r3 had the following outputs:

Outputs
# [L/MONO, R] 1/4” phone jacks (unbalanced)
# [PHONES] 1/4” phone stereo jack
# Foot Switch: ASSIGNABLE [SW], ASSIGNABLE [PEDAL]
# MIDI: IN, OUT, THRU
# USB: Type B

I know that the USB connection carries only midi information, no audio.

You need to go from the R3 OUPUT R and L/MONO into the front inputs 1 and 2 on the M-Audio. Set the top buttons by each input to Line (pushed in).
