Subject description: stumbled upon this durring a 567 experiment

So i was building a very simple circuit, the noise 567

http://www.angelfire.com/ego/sitruuna/images/noise567.bmp

and i was poking around and found a connection that produces pretty good sounding brownish noise. It might even be white noise but my amp probably eq's it a bit so the highs are lost.

Anyways, its a great noise source that runs off a 9 volt battery!

Heres what i did.

First i built the noise 567. I thought, hey thats pretty cool, what can i do with it. So i plugged my apc into it and thought, rad, makes some cool fm noises but doesnt seem to do much at the lower end- it just shuts up.
So then i built one of forest mim's classic 555 clock generators because i remember that you can plug it into an amp and hear some great higher frequency sounds. The idea was to use it as an internal sound source instead of having to connect my apc to it. The clock gen shares the same positive and ground connections with the noise 567.

So i wire up the out put (pin 3 of the 555) of the clock gen to the input of the noise 567. Groovy so far my experiment is coming along fine.

Then i replace the capacitor connected to the ground to a 1uf, and then i connected the output of the 567 to the input of the 567. Blammo, harsh noise

So to sum it up, the noise 567 is put together regularly according to the schematic posted above. Then I made a forest mims 555 clock gen, changed the cap to ground to a 1uf. The pulse out of the 555 goes to the input of the 567 which is further connected to the output of the 567.

slam, fatty noise. All with a 9volt battery. No diodes, cheap cheap materials.

So thought i'd share that with you guys.

Not sure if you really need the clock generator to make the noise, you might just be able to connect the input to the output of the 567 and get the same effects. Experiment!

i drew up a quick schematic, notice the change to a 470 pf cap on the 567

hope this helps, i'll try and confirm this soon.

I really have no clue if this is true random noise, but it sure sounds close.

upon closer inspection, it seems you dont need the 555 at all... just connection the in and out pins with caps seems to generate the noise, this is unconfirmed, but probing around my circuit seems to indicate this.

Hello!

My foolish index is high today, but what does Panel Mounted LDR mean?

Thanks

I'm not sure why a light dependant resistor should be used either, surely a variable pot should suffice?

pots have been tested and work great, if not better.
