Before I jump in . . Subject description: A few questions about the eurorack format |

I have decided on the eurorack format so I have some questions.
Can I build a compressor out of doepfer modules?
What about feeding audio signals back into inputs? Does it harm the modules? Do I get rewarded for experimenting?
How can I sync multiple LFOs? With my evolver, I just turn the LFOs to midi sync. How would I do something similar using doepfer modules ?
I may have some more questions, I will post them to this thread as I come up with them. |

yes. but it would take a few modules. and the result would not be better than a DBX 160, BSS or Focusrite compounder, or (more expensive) an SSL or Smart that also use a VCA. you can feed the key input of any compressor some modular signal of course. (sequenced pulses, or delayed envelopes)
FYI Cwejman makes compressor modules for the eurorack. it's clean fast and comparable to a good (but colorless) compressor.

yes, feedback loops are nice, put an attennuator in the loop so you can control the amount of feedback. Better yet use CV to control it (like with an ADSR or LFO)
Sonically it depends on what you're feedbacking into what.
by controlling the amount of feedback you'll also prevent too much voltage on the input. in extreme cases (mains to minijack adapter LOL) you could (theoretically) damage something, but I've never experienced this with doepfer modules.

yes.. the doepfer VCLFO is my favorite. just check the manual on the doepfer site. it's easy and the results are good. in fact.. check all the manuals you find there.
