There have been problems with USB cables, cable lengths and USB versions. To ensure that your update goes smoothly, use the shortest USB2 cable possible (<3 metres) and plug it into a USB2 plug. People have reported the G2 to work perfectly fine with longer cables, and also using USB1.1, but most people with problems are using long cables and/or using USB1.1.

If you have any patches that need backing up, do so now!

Run the updater utility and hopefully all should run smoothly. If it pauses for more than 2-3 minutes at any stage, simply close the utility and retry. Most G2 users that have problems encounter them once and with a restart everything works fine. If you're still having problems, quit the updater and turn your G2 off. Then turn it back on in "update mode". Keyboard users hold down the "Store" and "Performance Mode" buttons as you turn on the G2. Engine users press in the little hole on the front with a pen or outstretched paperclip as you turn the engine. Then restart the updater utility and all should run fine.

I just solve this problem on my computer . I don't know , if it works on all PC config but it's not worth to try it. The solution came from another forum for usb midi interface problem. Just disconnect the midi port before beginning to update the Engine. Some midi data maybe disturb correct upload thru usb. Now editor connection with the G2 Engine is stable and works fine on my computer.
For the connection I just use the original black and red usb cable delivered with the Engine.
