Starting a modular: I need tips |
Okay, so my plan is getting an MFB Kraftzwerg semi-modular so that I can get better acquainted with modular synthesis, and then base my modular needs from experience.
I already have an idea of what modules I'm gonna need/want, and those are Doepfer's A-115 Audio divider, an A-170 Dual Slew Limiter, an A-118 Noise/Random Voltage generator, possibly an A-189 Bit Crusher, a couple of multiples and mixers and an Analogue solutions SY02 filter (Korg MS20 filter), and eventually a S&H with internal clock. I might need an additional MIDI/CV converter if the one on the Kraftzwerg proves to be too unreliable. I'd appreciate if people informed me of more brands of module makers, as I don't know that many.
The thing is, I have pretty much no idea what rack/case to get, nor how the whole power/CV/gate bus thing works. I have a good knowledge on modular synthesis through playing on the Arturia ARP 2600V, so I know about what each module is supposed to do and how things are supposed to behave. But the actual physical part of putting together all the modules, I have no grasp of. So I need tips on this aspect. I'll only be using it in the studio, so I have no need for shiny and expensive suitcases. Hell, it doesn't even have to look good, as far as I'm concerned, as long as it does its job and isn't too expensive. Any help is appreciated.
