Specific synth sound Subject description: Help on finding a specific synth sound |
 |
|
Hi everyone,
I've been trying to recreate the synth sound used by Theo Keating (Fake Blood) etc in The Black Ghosts song 'Anyway You Choose To Give It' and have so far not been able to get the exact sound.
You can hear it if you don't already have it at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVAdxmd0RdA
or you can hear it in better quality at www.hypem.com just seach for 'black ghosts anyway you choose to give it'
I want to get the exact sound then tweak it to make it my own.
I mostly use Native Instruments Massive. I would hugely appreciate it if someone could give me an idea of how to get this sound.
Thanks a lot

By the sound of it there's two synth sounds going on here. the low one is simply a low sawtooth wave with a little bit of release, and the filter cutoff about 90% w/o any resonance.
its doubled up with a detuned square wave. sounds a good octave higher. you can do it by having three oscillators on square wave and fine tuning them so osc 2 is slightly below and osc 3 slightly above pitch. again a bit of release and your pretty much there |

Actually i've had a revelation from watching the video The exact sound seems to come from an ancient toy synthesizer he's playing in the video called the Casio VL-1. Now though these are discontinued as luck would have it a near perfect emulator exists that you can download and use below.
http://www.polyvalens.com/vl1/index.html
i think the preset is Piano, and that is the EXACT sound
it is doubled up by a det. sq. wave synth though.
if you wanna ask me any more questions, might as well post them here as i don't check my emails often. i'll try and help you out for sure. |
