Subject description: NM will only play midi in the active slot

Hi there,

I'm quite new with my Nord Modular and I hope this question hasn't already been asked; I can't find it:-

Why is it that when I send midi data from Logic Pro 8.0.2 on my Mac G5 to my NM (which I'm controlling with the editor from a separate old iMac G3) that as soon as I choose a slot other than the one I'm sending notes to, the notes stop? For example, let's say I have a moog patch in slot A, midi channel 1: it only sounds when I have slot A selected on the keyboard.

I will be *so grateful* if anyone can help: I really want to use all four slots!

Many thanks,

Peter

Setup: PowerMac G5, mac OS X.4.11; Logic Pro 8.0.1; Motu Microlite (g5)
Also iMac G3, OS 9.2 for Nord Modular editor, connected thru Motu Fastlane

The NordModular has a dynamic Voice allocation, which means a new setting will recalculate all the DSP's concerning voices. As soon a Slot is active it will 'demand' as much voices it requires...

So it needs time to think about that Wink

PS you will not use all Slots, but you'll use all DSP's for sure!

I'm not sure I understand... does this mean the patch complexity affects it? That it's happening because I've run out of juice?

What can I do to use the NM multitimbrally?

To play the NM using more Slots just push more buttons at once.
Just beware of the Voice allocation...

In the Patch there is a setting how many voices you want to use. But the is a limit in that coupled to the DSP power. (An expansion doubles this power). If you use a very simple Patch it is possible the use 32 voices if only using one Slot. But this single Slot uses all the available DSP's! As soon as you enable a second Slot the Voice allocation will distribute the power over the DSP's using the PatchLoad and VoiceRequest.
