I ordered all the parts I needed for the CGS28 from Mouser but ended up getting the wrong 4051 chips.

Don't get the 74HC series chips like I did. Get a MC14051 (Motorola) or CD4051 (other manufacturers). The 74HC chips can't handle the voltage in the circuit.

This was mentioned in the Yahoo list, but I didn't search back far enough to find it before ordering.

This has been a Public Service Announcement from Bodega.

Not sure if that means the chips I have are toast or not, now that I've powered up the module with them in....

Ken mentions this in the FAQ on his site as well.

http://www.cgs.synth.net/help.html

He also has a nice parts FAQ which is usually overlooked.. http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/parts_faq.html

Hope you get new ones and get the switch going! It's a nice module.

That's the first time I've seen the site FAQ - wish I'd seen it before.

I did check the Parts FAQ, but it doesn't mention the 4051. It does say this, but it doesn't really apply to the CGS28:

74LS series chips. I frequently use 74LS series chips because I have them lying around, though I would expect 74HC or 74ACT series chips would work as well, or in some cases better than the 74LS chips.

It's a shame there's not more about that on the product page. Ken, if you're reading this and need help re-writing it, let me know!
