| Someone convince me not to sell my g2x 61 key for a EMS Synthi a and a Doepfer Dark Energy, I already have reaktor and prefer my novation sl mk ii 61 key for playing on, why should I keep the g2x and reaktor having both is keeping me from learning one or the other more intensively, what are the major advantages of the nord over reaktor? and I have a growing interest in analog gear, I make mostly experimental ambient and industrial music any input would be greatly appreciated! |

because the G2X is alive and has a soul! This beast know when you cry, when you're happy...
I think the G2 is more intuitive than Reaktor.
I have a Novation remote 65 too. Do you prefer the modwhell from the Novation than the G2X ? and it's so nice for rapid movements with the pitch stick on the G2X. But i like the Novation piano. Made by Fatar I think.
Personaly, no words to describe the effect that the G2X gives to me. It's a thunderbolt love.
I was a reaktor user in the past (2004). But it was not intuitive enough for me and I do not feel real energy between me and Reaktor. Have you tried Tassman ? This one is limited but very intuitive and the sound is sharp.

Keep the G2X and buy a Doepfer Dark Energy. |

I don't know man, you can always try and find another G2x on ebay, but if I had a rare opportunity to get a Synthi, I'd have to take it! Buy a G2 rack with expansion for around $1200 later on! And, Reaktor is great, deeper possibilities than the Nord.
Of course, I'm saying this having just happily purchased a G2 Engine after having sold (regrettably) my original Nord Modular... _________________ Macbook 2.4 Unibody/Nord G2 Engine/9u of Euro Modules/Elektron Machinedrum SPS-1UW/NI Maschine/Novation Remote Zero SL MKII/ |

Do you play out a lot? If so, I'd say that unless you specifically need something that reaktor does and G2 doesn't, the G2 is a much better situation for live playing because it's more dependable than a computer.
I make similar music styles to what you listed and have never been let down by the G2 plus a few external pieces (distortion, filter, sampler).
Now, if they put reaktor in a little red box that never crashes, that would be a different thing. To me. |

-speed of patching and control assigning;greatly facilitates and encourages experimentation; delivers fast results and boosts productivity; simply is more fun
-stability (never crashes, at least mine never has in 6 years of intense use)
-best hardware UI ever designed for a modular system
-roadworthy, high quality hardware (I've gigged mine intensely for 6 years; no wear and tear at all)
-starts up in seconds
-all in one box; into the case and off you go
cheers,
tim (who also owns Reaktor5) |

| theese are all good points i am convinced to keep the nord but i think i will trade it for a g2 rack with expansion if i get the chance, i like the pitch/mod interface much better on the novation sl series |

those prices are very out of date
and there is a very long waiting list for synthis or vcs3s
and they have been out of production for many years, though it is due to re-start
and unless you are on the list you are unlikely to get a synthi as there are only enough cases left for those on the list and then it is due to be re-designed
and last time I asked a vc3 would be £3200 plus VAT _________________ Jez

I make experimental music, that's all I do. The G2 is the most powerful and easy to program synth out there IMHO.
I've looked at every synth out there and none compares. You can get synthi software synths out there for free that kind of come close to the real thing. There is one on Reaktor that is pretty nice.
Get Roland Knuts tutorial, it will show you how to program the G2 properly. |

I think you mean Roland Kuit.
Rob Hordijk's tutorial is great too.

Not me, hardware synths are old school - the new age is here and soft synths are it, so much more versatile, easy to update, look better on screen as well with nicer colours and pretty fonts. You can do your email and eBay as well at the same time, shopping lists and groceries while you compose that killer riff. I don't know why anybody has hard synths any more, they aren't worth $h1t these days. Will you take $500 for it?
