Very Happy It feels a bit like a french car - a common enough piece of equipment, but with some unique solutions to various details. I'm very positive so far about the sound and the user interface.

I should say that my purchase was greatly a result of the temporary (?) 50+% price drop here in Scandinavia (and perhaps other regions as well). I wouldn't have invested the original price.

Edit: not necesserily because it isn't worth the original price, but because I don't make that kind of investment in an instrument.

/Stefan

Haha, that's exactly how I think about it. But not like the Renault 16 with it's five-pointed philips screws, nor the Peugeot 504 with the fan belt going around the corner - more of a Citroen DS maybe, with it's innovations, charm and quirks? Smile

@ Andy : it's gotta be contagious, and I think all of us play guitar... is it something they put on the strings... Shocked

Well I think you have all made a good choice, I love mine. I just arse around twiddling the knobs for ages, years of entertainment available.

I bit lower tech but I managed to get hold of a G1 at a reasonable price Smile

I hear the G1 has a kind of character that later models did not duplicate. What do you think?

For my ears the difference in sound is not that much different to the G2, but I am a half deaf guitar player so I am not too reliable for that sort of comparison.

What I do like is that it is more limited in functionality and power than the G2 which makes me feel more comfortable with it.

Interestingly it has made me start to make more patches on my G2 -which in so many ways is better- but the instigation of the idea starts on the G1.

I really like it!

The NM-1 series compared to the G2?

This is fairly well documented and discussed in the Clavia section here

Basically the G2 is a reinvention of the NM-1 concept, the same thing, with some omissions and some improvements and some enhancements. The G2 is clearly more capable but it didn´t really make the NM-1 obsolete. Both sound absolutely OK.. rather good in fact.

The only real issue is the the fact that both rely on patch editor applications that haven´t been updated properly in years. The pairing with a computer was part of what seemingly made the Nord Modular concept brilliant.
If you can keep a computer kinda frozen in time.. with the right mix of operating system, drivers and editors apps.. then the NM-1 and/or G2 would be brilliant additions to any project studio. If not.. well.. then you are looking at some red door stops.

That being said, I have two NM-1s that I have no plan to ever part with. I have no problem with recommending both the NM-1 and the G2. But do pay attention to the software issues.

I love them both,wouldn't part with anything,including my MM's.
(of course I NEVER part with anything, even the stuff that's dead)

Haven't really noticed sound differences, but I'm deaf as well.(mostly from playing with explosives, not guitars)

I'll have to peruse said Clavia section someday when I get some time and read up on that.

Mainly the G2 (keyboard, not module) for me gives you better performance options and visual feedback.Even with less knobs, the parameter pages setup with the display windows beats the pants off the "hold down the find button and turn a knob to find out what it's controlling" and being able to load all 4 slots at once is invaluable.Plus having built in effects that aren't subject to ridiculous limits rocks as well.

But,yeah,I sure wouldn't want to have to program it without a computer.

Yeah, that one piqued my interest when I saw it.Price is definitely right too.I was looking to use it mainly for simple ribbon/thereminesque effects without using up a slot on one of the Nords.

here's a fun little video I found:

Well, it arrived.

Now to learn how to work it. It's very light-touched, so speed is nice, but accuracy requires practice.

It looks amazing Paul!

Are you using OSC or midi with it?

Well, some things will need midi, some will accommodate OSC, and it's perfectly happy playing AUs and VSTs on the Macbook, provided I get enough memory to deal with it. It's taking about 1GB of RAM to run, without even getting into anything more (like loading Omnisphere or something).

I must admit my Pico is gathering dust due to the awfulness of the EigenLabs software.

The last version I tried wouldn't even start on my machine, just crashed when scanning plugins constantly.

Maybe I should have another look as there seems to be some more updates.

There seems to be a lot of work going on with the software. other than being a bit slow to load configs, and the aforementioned 945MB of RAM which seems mostly taken up by Alchemy, I don't have any real complaints about the software for now. Give me a few weeks.

Still trying to find a moment to have a good dig into the Korg Z1 I picked up on eBay a few weeks ago for a paltry £285.

Well OK, it was actually £310, as the seller didn't refund the £25 postage in return for my collecting it, leading to the first piece of negative feedback I've ever left for anyone.

Still... not a bad price Smile

Now for the groovebox... and a decent pair of monitors... and maybe a reverb unit... after which I've promised her I'll stop - honest Wink

e2a... Except for a Zoom H2, then that really is it - oh yes Laughing

Dang that Eigenharp looks beautiful! Tell you what it needs though is more buttons. Yep, definitely needs to be completely covered with more buttons!

Haha

NanoStudio for iPhone. This thing is utterly amazing, honestly. Best £8.99 I've ever spent!! (see my post in the iPhone/ touch thread, for further details!).
