Help with dead NL1 key |
 |
|
Hi,
I bought a Nord 1 a few months back and it worked fine until yesterday, when one of the keys started acting up. It responds when you play it, but you can't get a not to sustain by keeping the key pressed. I've tried the ol' compressed air under the keys but without any luck.
I've looked around the forum for cleaning tips but found nothing accept a suggestion not to go through with it.
How can I get it to work again?
Thanks. |

What I understand just one key won't produce a sustain...
First of all which key is it?
All the other keys play normal?
Are you just playing one key?
Are you holding more keys the same time?
Is this in every Program/Performance?
Does OctShift result in another key/note?
Are there more than one Slot active?

Yes only one key doesn't produce sustain.
It's a G key, all other keys work fine, I'm playing just one key, not holding any other key at the same time, this happens on every program, only one slot active.
Thanks for helping. |

I’m trying to find out if it is the key or the software.
Using OctShift makes the troublesome note rise in pitch or not?
If the octave changes (in the first situation the key does malfunction and in the second with a changed shift the same key does it also) the key is broken, which is rather unusual. What could cause the early release of the key? You can try to open it up and remove the pad like cover of the contacts and see if all is right, a rather tricky operation, but it’s possible (I did it once cleaning the synth from spoiled coffee with loads of sugar in it…).
It probably would be the A/D converter, which doesn’t translate correctly. This has to be replaced by a service station (if the part is still available)…

Sorry to get back to this issue after so many months, but it's just too annoying. I've tried just forgetting about it but I can't. I've tried opening the nord but I can't get beneath the rubber pad without removing all the keys which I don't intend to do myself. I mean, the key is working just fine 70% of the times I hit it.
Yes, the octave does change. And when it was open I've noticed that if I try to push the rubber pad with my finger, I could not reproduce this behavior. Only when the key is in place. Also, it only happens with either very short and hard strokes, or when I push the key on it's upper most part near where it meets the red metal casing.
Any further thoughts? |

See http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/Red_Lady/Index_bestanden/Red_Lady/Weighted_part_2.htm
I know, the erticle is about weighted keys on the Lead, but it tell something about the procedure. Quote: | Yes, the octave does change. But it's delicate work. I did it (spilled coffee with sugar in synth and it helped...
I'm not a trained technician, so it should be rather easy, but I can't give you any warranty...
