Hi! And couple of basic queries re steiner/synthacon clone. |

Hi there
Keen budding electronics type here, not built much yet but learning.
I love the sound of the Steiner VCF and have ordered all the parts from the CGS site, so will have a go soon.
But as im not a modular person, i need to make a couple of modifications.
Firstly, hows the best way of getting either +/-12v or +/-15v to power it? I was thinking of using a wall wart type thing.
Secondly, rather than have 4 separate inputs, id like to have a common input and do something like this basic sketch below;
rather than four separate inputs. Would i need any resistors or similar on the inputs? Other than the 47k ones already specified?
In the fullness of time (if i get this working!) id like to put the four inputs on swtiched jacks, so i could have either the above, or 4 filters, or any combination of the above, but one step at a time.
Id greatly appreciate any comments or assistance.
Many thanks

Well fist off the synthacon is a strange beast. Notice that you have hp, lp and bp inputs! So a mixer isn't what your looking for. You could just use a 3pst switch if you didn't want the all pass. Or take a quad opamp and build a buffer with pots(or switches) on the output to control the volume .
Switches might be fine without a buffer.
Take a look at the CV distributor on the ultimate expander at MFOS if you need a schem. I've patched it with a multiple and I think the buffers would be a good addition if you want the all pass and mixed variants.
While your over there check out Ray's wall wart power supply if you haven't yet. That might be a good solution for you
Hope that helps. Its a fun filter and an easy build. Have fun.
Be careful though. Next you'll think you need an lfo and an EG for it and next thing you know your building your second cabinet. |

Hi. Thanks for replying.
Since posting i have come across the MFOS PSU thanks, I have all the bits and will build it soon!
Cheers for the hint re cv distributor, that's exactly what i need.
Otherwise, i may have mislead you; i actually want to split the signal into low/mid and high frequency ranges, do some processing on various frequency bands, and then recombine at the end. So i think (ive given this some thought) im prob going to have to build three mini circuits, based on this, for LP/BP and HP. And a mixer at the end. The all pass will be a useful internal 'send' effect, which i believe adds a phasing type sound.
Whether all this will work without (unwanted) phasing artefacts between bands remains to be seen!
Ive got a couple of things on my bench to look at first but will get on it asap!
Many thanks, cheers
