It occured to me this past weekend that music comes in fiction and non-fiction forms.

When you jam or noodle along, playing what you feel at the moment, it's non-fiction.

When you create an elaborate deliberate arrangement intending to convey a feeling that you are not maintaining throughout the creation process, it's fiction.

Also, program music, designed to paint tone pictures using traditional musical "language" can be considered fictional.

And yes, I realize how moot and silly this concept is. I just found it interesting and thought someone else might find it interesting.

Next we'll discuss the question: If a performer smiles and sings "Up With People" when he's in a crappy misanthropic mood, is he lying?
