I'm working on a "model" of a guitar - not modeled on the audio, but on the control end. It works well but there is one problem I cannot figure out.

Briefly: the Voice part of the patch mimics a guitar string and pick. The FX section contains back-end processing and effects, as well as all the string logic. The patch forces each string to be assigned to a specific voice, tuned to the normal pitches of a guitar - EADGBE - and then CCs are used to trigger voices and transpose them as if fretted. Buttons 1 through 6 in A1 trigger the notes; buttons 7 and 8 perform up and down strums. Eventually variations or sequencers might change the chords.

Obviously this needs buttloads of work - my thought is to make something that, when sequenced, responds like a guitar would. But I have one hangup. The strum circuitry occasionally misses notes, most often the 5th note, but sometimes others. Strangely, it doesn't seem to drop the note, but instead plays the 6th note in place of the 5th. I hear other things too, but that is the most common failing.

Oh. BTW: This has to be in slot A.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

I studied the patch but can't see where or how this is happening without using the status module voice number value.

The way I understand it, wouldn't you need to sort the played keys top-down or (down-up) and assign them to strings accordingly?

Sorry if these are dumb questions. Smile

UPDATE: OK, I had a quick shot at it in the way I understand the problem. I used the voice-assigning algorithm from my DIY arpeggiator with a different voice triggering scheme. Played keys on the keyboard are assigned to the 6 existing voices (strings) top-down or down up, overriding the default round robin voice allocation. The assignment direction is selectable. (The status module is useless, stupid me doh )

The played strings can then be plucked with 6 buttons. The G2 buttons aren't touch sensitive Laughing, but the string will be plucked according to the velocity with which you originally pressed the key.
Only strings that are actively played (or held) on the keyboard can be plucked (eg. if you play a 3 note chord, the notes will be assigned to strings 1-3 and plucking string 4 with its button will not have any effect).

It's just a quick'n'dirty mockup using your string voice, I didn't include strumming (easy to do with timing-staggered gates) and your FX got lost in the process Laughing but oh well...

Perhaps this is of some use.

cheers,
t

EDIT: Note: the algorithm uses 3 interslot busses for communication between the 6 string voices and the keyboard assigner in the FX area. No MIDI.
