Please help with Micro OSX Editor crash |
 |
|
Hey guys - Tiger mangled my MIDI setups REALLY bad so I took it upon myself to reinstall Panter last night as it was STABLE and EVERYTHNIG WORKED.
But, in accordance with my luck (all bad) - now the Micro Editor crashes on a fresh install. I have repaired perms, ran OnyX, prebinded, everything. This is the error I am getting:
'Assertion Failed: MacGraphic.cpp, line 199
What to do:
(1) Note the file name (ex. "MacGraphic.cpp") and the line number.
(2) Press OK to continue. (doesn't work btw - have to Force Quit)
(3) Reprt any Asserts to Clavia DMI AB.
What's an Assert:
You get an assert when something *unexpected* happened in the application. Asserts are only part of the debug-version of the application and are added explicitly by the programmers.
Warning:
Only press "Debugger" button if you have a debugger installed, else you will crash!'
---
I HAVE to use this POS if I want to work with my Micro (and I have to use my Micro POS because Clavia are a bunch of ass-clowns who let EVERYONE in the world down with their G2 line not supporting/having the same modules as their original lineup.) And yes, I am aware of the comparison table - but it's not the same. The thing is - this worked BEAUTIFULLY before I installed Tiger and then reverted back to Panther. The Panther install went flawlessly so I am at a loss. Was is the 10.3.9 combo-updater instead of the incremental updaters that maybe had a flaw? Is there a way to fix the 'Assertion Failed: MacGraphic.cpp, line 199' error? Do I gotta wipe and reinstall AGAIN (absolute LAST option hopefully)? Any techs here know what the deal is? |

I don?t run this app myself.. don?t have the G2.. and my system is pretty customized anyway.. so if it would run on my system it wouldn?t prove much anyway.
The error messages you get won?t neccesarily tell us much about what is wrong. However, I suspect you might have a font issue. Do you have only the system installed default fonts, or do you have some kind of custom setup? Some apps like this one might crash if they don?t have the expected fonts available. It could be the .9 updater... but.. I doubt that.
You are sure your system is a mint condition Apple 10.3.9 default system.. or is it something in there that we should know about.
Most OS X issues can be solved by simply mess about with the files.. no reinstall needed.
Which mac do you have? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

How did Tiger kill your midi setups? It would be great if you could document that in a new thread. That is just the kind of info we want to see. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

My Mac is an old Dual 500 G4 w/ 1.5GB RAM (holding out for the Dual 3 Ghz)
It is a clandestine 10.3.9 install with NO xtra fonts.
Tiger killed my MIDI by being NEW and imcompatible with MOTU's MTP AV (and more than half of that is MOTU's fault - they make the worst software EVER and their updates are a JOKE).
Basically - Tiger weirded the MOTU stuff out (even with a MOTU Tiger-compatible update). That in turn made Logic Pro 6.4.3 receive only scrambled MIDI messages when it would pick anything up at all. Basically - wait to upgrade if you use this stuff till at LEAST 10.4.1. None of the MIDI stuff works right yet (at least - not with my gear and it all DID work in Panther w/ no probs) |

That old mac is very nice. I have 2 of those myself.
I know this is not you would want to hear, but..
System upgrades shouldn?t really be installed unless you know that all your software is compatible. The same goes of incremental updates like the 10.3.8 to 10.3.9 as well as 10.3x to 10.4.x.
Anyways, expect a rush of updates the next two weeks. I think MOTU posted a 10.4 compliant beta for their audio interfaces a few days ago.
I have simply no idea about what causes the editor crashes.. but we did have a post about something similar some weeks ago.. or more.. somewhere. I haven?t been able to find it yet. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

that's today....mhhhh....a 'clandestine' install ...do you have the developer's beta..maybe not the actual real deal...
perhaps the lesson is, don;t upgrade before the OS has actually been released... _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Actually - I have the Gold Master of Tiger (the final version that shipped today). The 'clandestine' install comment was about the reinstallation of Panther. This topic has nothing to do with trying to get the OSX Micro Editor to work in Tiger - rather, to figure out why it isn't working in PANTHER which it always did but since the reinstall - now doesn't. |

Did you reinstall absolutely everything from scratch, or did you keep settings from your user/library folder too..? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Everything was installed from scratch.
I just spent the day overwriting the HD 20x with zeros and reformatting from scratch. Just installed 10.3.0 from the store-bought CD's and the OSX Micro Editor was the first thing installed and it gives me the same error. WTF.
I am off to find a link to the original OSX Editor beta for my Micro - even though I know the one I have is NOT corrupted. I will install that and see what happens. This is weird and not fair. |

Ya know Electro - you are a GOD amongst men lol. THANK YOU.
I went to the Clavia site to get the OSX beta Editor for my Micro and they also had a file in with their patches called:
'Mac Modular Fonts.sit'
This reminded me of your earlier inclination so I took a chance and downloaded it along with the Editor (for good measure) - installed the fonts and installed the Editor and BAM! - I am BACK IN BUSINESS!
OMG THANK YOU MAN! |

Well - the fonts from Clavia were:
Arial (icon says FFIL and 'Get Info' says its a Font Suitcase font.
Geneva (same FFIL on the icon)
--- OSX has these same fonts but they are called:
ArialHB.ttf (icon says TTF which is True Type Font)
ArialHBBold.ttf (same)
GenevaCY.dfont (icon says DFONT which is Datafork True Type Font)
---
Maybe it worked before with no problems because I had Microsoft Office 2004 already installed which installs alot of fonts OSX doesn't have. That's the only thing I can think of. When I installed the OSX Micro Editor this time - I didn't have Microsoft Office 2004 installed because I am waiting for CS2.
Regardless - THANK YOU for helping me. |
