electronics = magic

"Electric" devices use the invisible force called "electricity" to create the magnetic fields that drive motors, to generate heat and, in the case of incandescent lamps, to generate light.

But true magic takes place in the realm we call "electronics." We no longer ask what electronics can do, but rather, what can electronics not do. We have yet to discover its limits.

Among the many magical things electronics can do, my favorite is to create new music with synthesizers and then use my computer to share that music with the world. Sometimes the entire process takes as little as an hour!

This kind of magic, now commonplace, was barely possible in the world into which I was born (USA 1954). There were a few electronic instruments, a few kinds of audio recording devices and there was shortwave radio. But American amateur radio operators were not allowed to "broadcast." Perhaps a few people were in a position to approximate what I do now, but to my knowledge no one did.

We take it for granted but this is very powerful magic and it is still relatively new.

I have also been able to use the wonders of electronics to make music (or at least some noise) and share it with the rest of the world on the internet, and have even sometimes got some good feedback That is so very powerful…

I will never take it for granted, because I also grew up when such a thing was not even possible…

Now I just need to work harder to produce my music (noise) and share it...
