The Roland Vocoder Plus combined a vocoder with strings/choir synthesiser. Vangelis used it to replace his Mellotron Rolling Eyes . This patch is an attempt to replicate the choir section.

It uses a simple voice as the original was organ type technology. Most of the work is done in the effects section. First, a dual delay provides a pre-vibrato to the main chorus. The chorus is a pair of dual delays, one delay modulated with a slow lfo, the other with a fast lfo plus an inverted copy of the slow lfo. The two chorus sections are detuned and then fed through a pair of triple resonators for the vocal formants. The reason for going after the chorus is that the formants get blurred by the chorus section otherwise.
I did play with the VP-330 when it first came out but this has been patched based on info posted on the net, not from memory.

For the rare person who might have a G2 _and_ a V-Synth _and_ their new VC-2 Vocal Designer card for it, the latter contains a number of pretty thorough simulations of the VP-330. It would be interesting to compare what this patch does and sounds like with those.

Yes, this patch was made from 'descriptions' of how the VP choir worked, rather than by ear. It does make a nice retro, generic choir sound IMHO.

I got lucky and found some actual VP330 samples to compare the sound. I have re-posted the same patch with variation 6 set to match the actual formants from the sample.
It is still different sounding, my chorus is a little OTT but the original sounds a little too organ like for my taste. Ease off the chorus if you want a more authentic VP sound.
