Starting my Kyma journey... Subject description: Some problems I ended up finding quickly... |

Hi all
Despite I got my Capybara 320 last year, only recently I have started exploring it more seriously and creating my own "sounds" with it.
The workflow it offers is quite different from the Clavia Nord Modulars that I'm so used to, but it seems to be worth the effort since it really sounds amazing and seems to be very versatile!
The thing I'm a bit puzzled with right now is how to estimate if a sound will work or not...
In the Clavia Nord Modular, you can see how DSP you are consuming, but in the Kyma you need to compile the sound before you have that information, which sometimes leads to patches that just doesn't work...
In fact, that's actually why I started my electro-music.com performance a bit later yesterday... after some time working on a patch, I ended up getting the dreadful warning:
"You may have exceeded the limits of real-time computation at time 0.2 seconds"
I am a bit surprised because the sound in question was essentially two Long Grain Reverb running simultaneously...
But while that sound isn't even that DSP consuming, my sound just would give me the OUT OF REAL TIME on top of the DSP Status (in red).
To be clear, I have a fully expanded Capybara 320 in terms of DSP (27 DSPs plus the DSP for I/O), so I was really expecting it to be able to handle it...
But instead, I get the last DSP going all the way to the top...
It still produced sound, but not what I was expecting at all...
The other change I did was to actually reserve a slider in the VCS for each of the parameters that I can edit in realtime (not sure if that is quite consuming in terms of DSP...)
I have also tried other sounds from the original library and have noticed that when you raise polyphony, I get similar warnings...
For instance, using"bell voice KBD" sound, if I raise the polyphony from 4 to 8 notes, I get this warning:
"You may have exceeded the limits of real-time computation at time 0.0 seconds"
But unlike the previous case, it shows me that it consumes more DSP than before (around double, as I would expect, so less than 6 DSPs).
Still, while playing, I'm a bit unsure it is working well as I can notice some note stealing still...
What I would start by asking is, what kind of tasks can be DSP consuming in Kyma and how exactly does polyphony works in it?
And does anyone have a suggestion on tutorials available?
Thanks in advance,
All the best
