in the past i did some PCBs and Eurorack front panels kits for various Thomas Henry projects: VCO, LFO, ADSR, however a filter was missing.
I got Thomas' permission to do a PCB/Panel combo for his 12db State Variable VCF/VCA module, which is based on a 2164 quad VCA IC. You might know this circuit from his book 'An Analog Synthesizer
for the 21st Century' (Thomas Henry 2006). Together with the other Thomas Henry modules available (thonk/synthcube) one could build a basic stand-alone Thomas Henry synth now.
I just built an prototype and it worked out quite fine. THere are a few klutches on the prototype, however it is understood that these corrections will be incorporated in the PCBs i will sell.
A front panel is in the works, too. I hope i can get all done before christmas.
Prices will be reasonable (IMHO), same ballpark as for my other Thomas Henry projects.
The sound of the filter is quite vanilla, it is selfoscillating and trimmable to 1V/oct. Sounds to follow.

seems a bit quiet for a fonik pcb order thread but just in case i miss out, ill have one of everything pls
haha. the big business could be found over at muffs these days, i guess.
i did not manage to order a prototype front panel yet. everthing is going very slow on my side. i cannot help it. life is very challenging sometimes. _________________

If still to be ordered, I'm in with one pcb ...
Like always .. only the main pcb, no frontpanel .. want it in my 5HE on +- 15v .. _________________ greetings from belgium, Sascha
I had to make a decision: The PCBs and Panels are going to be sold via Thonk, SynthCube, ModularAddict and PerfectCircuit.
At least Thonk will sell single PCBs w/o panel and adapter PCB.
Should be in the shops in 3-4 weeks. _________________

Classic manual wiring and DIY panel. That's the right spirit! _________________

2164Vcf
Hi
i have build the 2164 VCA VCF with a Chip from COOLAUDIO
but i have Problem with the Reso,
if i turn the Poti 75-100 % clockwise the Reso overloaded and
the Audiosignal break
if i disconect the gnd from the Resopot the Problem is gone but
the Reso are not enough for self Oscillation
hi SromB
i changed the resonance circuitry in comparison to the original, since it wokrd better this way. BTW i used the coolaudio part as well.
so you might check the original schematic from Thomas.
besides this, are you sure you use a 1M pot for the resonance? _________________

Hi
i have build the VCA VCF from the Book
An Analog Synthesizer for the 21st Century
and I have Check every resistor and every connections
nothing is wrong the only difference is the Resopot
in the Book has the resopot no Connection to Gnd
in Your schematic goes a pin to ground

Thomas' original schematic has the reso pot wired as rheostat, which was the way to do it in the old times, however, at some point it changed to the divider to GND configuration. if i am correct it was Craig Anderton who suggested the divider to GND long time ago...
anyways, it is the first time that i hear about any issue with the circuit.
did you check the potentiometer? when i built my klee2 back then i had a bad pot, and i replaced it just to learn that the new pot was bad, too (16mm alpha, shit happens).
or try to change the value of R24
and/or post in the original thread as well, since Thomas will most likely not track this sub-forum... _________________
