Hey,

Just a short note to review the gig held last night in London at club Koko, "Easy to Swallow" curated by Russel Haswell.

This gig was the most broad minded and most complete musical experience I think I have ever had, the range of artists was compelling, switching from the noise-core sound of Mego's "Pita" , to a rare live set from the US based band "Earth" , then falling into rave territory with 2 Robert Hood (of the detroit techno scene) sets sandwiching Autechre.

Autechre's set seemed an extention of their live tour this year, the opening beats were instantly recognisable, but this was truely the clenest, most unclutterd set Ive heard the play, beaty and easy to follow whilst still standing head and shoulders above other live electronic acts (people were dancing the entire way though!!)

Earths buildup/warmup to the dance music was perfect, droneing guitars played on a red light drenched stage gave an almost Lynchian feel to the evening. Robert Hood provided 2 perfect sets, before AE an 'Influences' Set, and to round off the night a hardcore rave set gave the (extreamly eager) audience exactly what they wanted..... Big smiles, lots of hugs, and hours of unadalterated dancing made for a memorable night, all hosted in the fascinating club Koko, a gutted burlesque theatre with boxes and all - the type of rave you only dream of!!

Russel Haswell, the curator of the event, seemingly ran the event as part of his new project under a UK government sponsered charity, see the links below, he is a man to be watching!!!!

A magical night . . . . .

Nick S

Easy to swallow 17 sep
Let me start by saying I love my music and a fun night filled with it.
I had travelled from Bristol to see Autechre and was utterly disappointed with the night.
The night started with some Goth/death metal dirge DJs which was very very dull and seemed more interested in shocking the good people of koko then playing some decent music.

Next was Pita, cant really review this because the sound quality was awful and could nt hear what the hell was going on.
As for Earth!!
The most boring, soulless band I have ever heard with every tune the same as the last, though I did see and meet a few rockers in the crowd (not like it was rocking though) so some people must have been pleased to see them. What were they going to think of autechre?

This was the third and worst time I ve heard autechre live, but not to their fault, again the sound quality spoilt everything!
Robert hood salvaged what was left of the night with some techno classics but the
combination of these two different genres simply did not work, nice intentions, rubbish night!
