New Modular User... Subject description: In search of good patches |
 |
|
Hello
In a few days i will be receiving a second hand Clavia Modular.
Off course, creating sounds is what i will do with it, but i also
want to download other peoples sounds and learn that way.
So what is the best place to get a hold of a lot of great sounds
all at once? Is there a 5-million-patches.zip anywhere?
I am mostly intrested in analog type of sounds, pads, leads, basses, fx etc..
I.o.w, musical sounds more then scientific content
Can anyone point me to the best direction for great free sounds?!
Thanks alot, and sorry for crappy english |

I too purchased a NM long after it was released. I've found the patch archive helpful. As to "best" patches ... well it really depends on your taste and imagination. Most of the patches I have encountered are a local optimum ... good at sounding "good" or demonstrating a technique, or automating a process, etc.
What kinds of patches are you looking for?
Welcome.

I have just gotten the Nord Modular and are starting to slowly learn it.
As i have been using a G2 Engine for some time i was curious about the discussion wich sounds better, the G2 or the Nord Modular.
Now after some short testing, i would defintly say that these are two different machines soundwise. But in the end its just a matter of taste.
The G2 sounds polished and glassy
The Nord Modular sounds more raw - i prefer this
But one thing is disturbing me a little though.
When using the editor, spinning a knob with the mouse looks fine,
but when i control the Nord Modular with Midi or from the knobs
the editor seems to respond very slow! You see the parameters only
updates 3-4 times /second. Is this normal or is there a problem somewhere?
This was not the case with the G2 editor |

Yes, that's because the G2 editor is connected to the synth via USB, but the NM1 editor is connected to the synth using a second MIDI port, which is slower than USB. This means that the image on the screen doesn't update as smoothly when you turn a knob on the synth. BUT - it's only the screen image that is affected by this. The audio responds to knobs quickly and smoothly, just like the G2. _________________ Dave Peck |

Exactly. The NM editor can be a lot like one of those webcams of a street somewhere. Just because the people on the cam move jerky and sometimes seem to "disapear" doesn't meant hat whole street looks like that.
This can get very confusing with fast sequencer use. In fact I think there is a option to turn sequencer leds off in the editor because of that. The sequencers can run way faster then MIDI could report on where they are, actually they can run much faster then your screen redraw rate too.
This doesn't affect the sound at all, it's just a minor inconvenience. _________________ Kassen |

Thanks.. I suspected it was the case because of midi, but i just wanted to have it confirmed since i bought it second hand...
I have heard of a patch for nord modular that is a 100% exact sounding
Nordlead2 replica. Could anyone tell me were this can be found? If its deep within the archives, what is the filename called? |
