Don't know either if its like a prophet 5, but variation 5 is a nice one :-) _________________ Jan

Here is the layout for operation. |
 |
|
The Top left side is suppose to be the prophet's PolyMod side. You vari the F Env, and PWB knob levels first, then switch on the top left three switches in mustard yellow. You should instantly hear the changes.
The bottom left is for the Mod Wheel Modulations. On the LFO Mix turn up LFO1 Knob level in case you don't have a MW in front of you to here the changes. LFO2 is there just to simulate the prophet's double shape at once feature. For example mixing a triangle with a square wave. The analog drift at the bottom is suppose to slightly detune Osc1 but I think I need more practice with this feature.
I can't get it to react as simple as the PRO-53, or Alesis ION's Dift. I would really be delighted if this was in the Next OS Nord update. My wishlist: Analog Drift Module (dedicated), Simultaneous LFO (tri & square & saw at once) module, and more module colors.
If any one can school me on a simple design for analog drifting please teach. |

I am working on a bad ass super Prophet like design. |

I really like the way my first attempt turned out! I like the way Dave Smith designed the pre-routed Mods. I like the whole turn on the switch for this and that. I am currently designing the same synth but with a bigger pre-routed Mod mini Matrix. It should be really easy to work, because all you have to do is switch on/off from the colunm of choices. Should be done like in two days. I work on it at work during breaks using the Demo Nord software on a laptop. The sound kicks ass. So far I got it to do wild FM & sync-like growls. I am starting to like this. My Alesis Ion will go on break for a while. |

Nice job on both the structure and variation programming.
Drift is a big topic, I've gotten about 10% through the infamous analog-heaven 'debate' 2003/4 on the topic.
Slow drift exists in analog gear for sure but I'm not convinced it is a major player in synth tone. An old Moog sounds the same even if it is in a temperature controlled studio.
A zero DSP way of breaking up the accuracy, is semi random Keyb morphs on the oscillator fine tune controls. Or along the same lines, a keyboard cv through a wave wrapper gives a nice wonky tracking.
Very small, per cycle, random (or not so random) fm also works well. |

You are right it is not a major player, but I have noticed that when machines have dedicated 'analog' knobs or at least an emulation and they are turned up a little there is a different flanging going on with two osc mixed together. The Alesis Ion can simulate this nicely. All I have to do is give it about 10% dirft and it makes the detuned flange. I guess this would be more for Pads. You would have to hold down the note for some time to hear the change.
How do you ring Mod on the Nord anyway? There isn't a dedicated module is there? |

It has two, but they are not obvious, the LevMod is a ringmod when the AM knob is full right. Also, the levMult looks like a vca but it works with bipolar signals on both inputs so it technically is a four quadrant multiplier AKA ring modulator. If you like low fi, you can also use a logic gate in XOR mode like on the Korg MS20, its not a ring mod but gives similar(?) effect. |

YES!!! At least to the Pro-53 you are too close!!! Super Sync
is my favourite Pro-53 Patch and it was a joy to hear it from my Nord!
Thanks |
