Following the Power Mac G5 debut last monday, Apple quietly streamlined its Power Mac G4 line at the online Apple Store, dropping prices and listing "Mac OS 9 boot" capability across the board. The remaining models are all equipped with 1.25-GHz processors.
There's just one standard Power Mac G4 configuration, priced at $1299 ($1799 Canadian) with a 1MB L3 cache, 256 MBytes of memory, 80GB ATA drive and DVD/CD-RW "Combo" optical drive. Two "custom-built" models are priced at $1599 and $3274, both with dual processors supported by 2MB L3 caches.
In online Apple Stores outside the U.S., the Power Mac G4 systems may be hidden within the Power Mac G5 pages, linked under the title "Mac OS 9 Systems."
Apple's new Power Mac G5 models are available for ordering, both inside and outside the U.S., with estimated U.S. delivery of "August" at prices starting from $1999.

According to Apple the new G5 model is the fastest desktop computer ever. I have read some of the small print regarding some of the speed tests and I am not quite sure about that one. The new G5 is good and performs well but it might not be the fastest yet. However the IBM 970 is a nice CPU design. So far.. without testing a G5 myself.. I would say it is a nice computer design and will probably show a very decent realword performance. The new version of the OS , OS X 10.3 - codenamed Panther, will show up in november/december and will be better tuned for the G5 than the current version.
