Atari Punk Console Output Question Subject description: Using Jack -AND- Speaker |
 |
|
Hi Guys,
I'm a noob here. I just joined and I love the discussions so far. I think the APC will be my next project. Here's my question. Will soldering the positive lead from a speaker to the "switch" lug of my output jack give me the option of using one or the other? Will I have to add anything? What ohm speaker?
Also, are there any simple ways to gate this circuit? I'd also like to hear from anyone whos done any mods like adding LDR's, etc...
Thanks,
John |

I haven't built this thing, so I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that this circuit can't drive a speaker. Wouldn't be loud enough. So you'd probably want to put in some kind of speaker amplifier chip or a power transistor or something. It wouldn't be too complicated.
You are right, though, that using a switched jack will let you use one or the other (not both at once, though!). So you could have the signal that runs to the speaker amplifier run through the switched contact of the jack, and when you plug in a cable, the speaker amplifier loses it's signal and you get a line output form the jack.
oh, and to electro-music! |

Yep, no go on the external speaker without somesort of circuitry. I was going to do the same thing with a switched jack. It didn't have enough guts, I think the schem says its -4db. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

as we can see here
you can connect a speaker. i used 8ohm 2W speaker . and it works nicely. if you want to ad the line output you have to ad the resistors that comes from pin 9. but if you want just the speaker, connect it straight to pin 9 .or you can ad a potentiometer for volume control (as seen on the pic). _________________ Association of experimental electronics

No Doi, I didn't realize till now your space wired APC had a speaker. I used a 100k and added a volume I might have to open her up and add the speaker. I can't play mine on the toilet without bringing an amp in there right dnny _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

I'm still learning and regarding my other post. I used a 100k strapped over the output resistor 4.7K I believe. It works fine, but 5k is way lower a value. Whats the diff? _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |
