Help with creating a envelope follower/delay effect... |
 |
|
I have been trying to make a set of flexible delays for live use on my vocals that are responsive to the amplitude of my voice. None are finished to my satisfaction enough to post them in experimental patches, and are mostly based on Jan's BBD and Rob's Revox at this point. I'm just asking for general advice on how to go about doing this. I have followed all the threads re: envelope follower creation and am a little confused. What I want to implement is something like a feature of my Lexicon Vortex or certain analog delay modules where loudness of the signal controlled or modulated delay time/feedback. With the G2 you should be able to make a flexible effects setup like this, perhaps even using an attenuator and the morph groups? This will make it global for my live setup, which will all be sets of performances with different synth voices/vocal fx mixed, with many primary controls hopefully in the global menus.
One problem I ran into when trying to add anything to Jans BBD after I had set up my vocal amp/compression was that I had basically run out of cycles on the voice to experiment much with envelope following without rethinking the whole thing to be distributed through the bus/fx system. Can I just get rid of a few delays in the chain without too much harm to signal quality (I'll experiment with this myself)?
Maybe you should just vote:
1) You should give up this silly envelope follower idea because no ones going to hear the subtle difference anyway so Keep It Simple Stupid. Your going on tour in a month so focus on making your synth voices kick ass and knowing them inside out as well as having a simple delay/reverb and lots of control over levels/bussing (I'm using the G2 as a replacement mixer for my voice/synth).
2) Your problem is easy, here's the solution: "***"
3) Your going to blow out the G2X's mic imput by singing through it like Mike Patton. Find a different way when you get home in november, or even before your next gig.
I'll post my vocal fx setup attempts as soon as they become more cohesive in this thread, or make one in experimental performances. In the meantime I appreciate any advice you could give. |

Lovely, a rhetoric vote, just like democrazy :-)
But you can remove as many stages as you want from the BBD, its just that the delay time will get shorter.
I'd go the bussing route though, I'd think, maybe, that is: split the patch over different slots to make a performance, its not that hard. _________________ Jan
also .. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit.
