G2 pitch-stick malfunctioning |
 |
|
Anyone ever heard of or experienced this problem?
Basically my pitch stick is behaving erratically. When I make a tweak with the pitch-stick, the pitch jumps wildly around, and often gets 'stuck' (the pitch, not the stick) even though the stick returns to its central position. It takes a bit of manipulation to get the sound back to the zero point or normal pitch.
I guess its going to need replacing, anyone had similar problems or advice?
Cheers,
Stu |

Had mine replaced just out of the warrantee period. There was a problem with the resistive element delaminating. The replacement only took a couple of days and cost $60 (I think).

I had a similar problem, but less dramatic. Once the stick was used, the pitch didn't return to the original value, but stayed put somewhere close. Using the stick again got me another static pitch value, etc.
I talked with the importer here in Holland and they sent me a new unit which I replaced myself. If you're comfortable with a soldering iron it's quite easy. Most of the work was opening/closing the synth. The delicate part is that you're soldering the stick wires directly onto one of the pcboards. IIRC it was the pot board.
The pitch stick looks really simple once you see one. It's a wooden grip mounted on a metal strip. When using the stick we bend that strip. On the other end of the strip a small SMD-like construct is placed, looks like a couple of resisters. That's where the wires are attached. Somehow these resistors react to the tension applied to the metal strip. And I guess that's the part where pitch sticks go nuts. _________________ klontart sound and vision blog: http://www.klontart.com |

Just an update..
The pitch stick was replaced under warranty, and cost me nothing, although FYI it cost around NZD$60 for the dealer. Anyway its working nicely again now! |
