Subject description: A Max Patch for synced Variations Management
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Attached is a small Patch made in Max which I really like for jamming with different Variations in the four Slots of the G2.
It gives me direct access to all Variations in all Slots, mapped to the Keyboard and it uses the G2's MidiClock, syncing/delaying the Variation Changes to the Beginning of the next Bar. Cool (I wish the G2 had this feature build in...)
Additionally it is possible to make Presets out of Variation Combinations and recall these (using the Numeric Keypad) !!
If you set the G2 to Local Off you can control the Variations synced from the G2 Hardware!!!

Currently it's set to a fixed Grid, syncing to each 4/4 Bar, but maybe I'll add different Measures and Grids. Let me know!!

(You need the Max/Msp Runtime in order to run this!)

Enjoy!
Lars

i ve to try it...
max is somehow a great concept because it alows to run patches without owning the program...
actually i would like to own it..but to big investion for my budgets..
or a to big investion too cure curiosity.
i would have evaluated it the usual ways allready...but it seems that the makers of max have good friends in the hacker comunity Wink.
Its however a software that can be valuable in having..a friend of me started 2-3 years ago to concentrate on the video features and he really started to get jobs getting in just by the knowledge he gained in audio/video patching.

i do this internally. an 8-1 switch and a s/h set at the downbeat and you're synced...

in my case, i have perfected my timing of variation button pushing, so the above technique is not utilised Smile

this is how I started using synced Variation Switching, too. But I didn't like that i have to use an extra Slot for this, as e.g. controlling Variations in a Slot A form inside this Slot is a bit confusing...

Using this Patch I have direct access to all 4 Slots, I even don't have to change the focused Slot.
And I can easily save/recall different Variation combinations, great for trying different Arrangements...

And all I have to do, is to open this Max-App, no modifying of my Patches is necessary.

I'm not sure if I will return to the internal Switch->S/H Way for playing live: I try to avoid the need for a Laptop and I still have my hands free on the downbeat for further tweaking (of course, that's the reason for me to do this, not my bad timing, when switching Variations manually Wink )

I made a patch that did this once and then decided it sounded better 'humanised' Smile
