I have heard that both Idi Amin and Djengis Khan are going do the same. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

sell out or genius art scam? |

I couldn't believe this when I saw it. At first I thought Devo had to be the worst sell-outs in history, but then as I thought about it more, it seems like the best marketing coup ever made by a pretty much over-the-hill 80's pop group.
I can't believe any one who saw the "whip it" video, or heard Devo's cover version of satisfaction back in the 80's would ever even consider anything that strange becoming "mass market". But here we are, 20 years later, and it's being pumped out by none other than Disney!
These guys are going to be raking in the dough and laughing all the way to the bank.
Good for them! |

How's this for a concept: Marylin Manson Jr. ;-)
The whole industrial-freak-goth thing is totally ripe for media-friendly make over. I totally see it happening.
But the day that the Residents get their own cartoon show on Nickelodeon, is the day I can die fulfilled. ;-)
cheers

I am sure Hawkwind could have been a great bet for the the next "Star Trek Yet Another Generation" series. There are space cadets and there are space cadets. At least they could kick out the Klingons and give us the hawkfest instead. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

DEVO has been one of my all-time favorite pop bands. As many of you know, Mark Mothersbaugh has been producing plenty of TV and movie soundtracks. But now they have licensed their likeness to an unlikely partner: Disney. Check out the above website and meet the DEVO 2.0 kids. |
I think it's pretty consistent with their image. Always when you read in-depth stuff about Devo you get an impression of humour and irony.
I like the versions of their songs on the site.

The Disney Channel has many of these engineered pop groups. Reminds me of the Monkees. They look great and sound exactly right. This is a lot like Japanese pop music. This is commercial music. Buy Disney stock. After a few years of this what can we expect? More of the same of something original? For sure TV shows and Movies... _________________ --Howard
