I've put a link to this fab software in the links section.

I reckon that if you diy artists want your creations to hold some clout in a few decades time- just like a composer, it's important to document with technical drawings your art.

I'm talking Q-Cad. It's really very, very good! Worth the price just for its huge online freeware library and its really very good manual (try getting a cheap manual for Autodesk's AutoCAD software Confused )

Oh yes- Q-Cad is almost a carbon copy of AutoCAD- except it's easier to use- and that can't be a bad thing Very Happy Cool

How's it compare to Ray's free schematic editor program?

...i've been playing around with the free cad program for emachineshop. in addition to being able to draw something, you can find out how much to have it (or 1000 like it) delivered to your door.

I think QCad is in a completely different league to Schematic Designer although the latter is very good for quickly knocking up electronic sketches. QCad is more a designers tool for building a high quality machined or bespoke housing. If you wanted to design an Ondes Martenot manual or a Mixtrautonium, QCad is your man for eg.

One application of QCad on its website is a company that designs bespoke bicycles- designed in QCad. There are other people making model aeroplanes etc.

(EDIT- note QCad is NOT and electronics design application. It is a graphical vector design application!- just like AutoCAD)

OMG!- Is that what I wrote? Embarassed I must be loosing it! Shocked

Mosc, SP and Q-CAD are two entirely different things- although they share much in common (CAD)

I've been doing my rounds of all this CAD software- pen and paper is still the King IMO! Very Happy

However one drawing program I have come by which really took my fancy was something called MacDraft. There are both PC and Mac versions out there if you fancy having a go- but the developers say the Mac version is the better equipped of the two.

Suddenly 2D CAD drawing became fun again Very Happy Bit pricey mind Sad
