I've been using the Nord Micromodular for about a month now and love it. I've been running the editor software on a separate Mac with it's own midi interface and it's worked out really well. It enables me to keep the patch in full view on one computer while Pro Tools is on the other. So I got to thinking Idea about using this idea with another synth.....like the Yamaha AN1x, which I actually don't own.....yet, but I do have the editor software for it so it's kind of on my kit list. But my question is this: The Micro has 2 sets of midi ins and outs, the AN1x does not. Is there someway of splitting a midi in/out so I could edit on one computer while enabling the AN1x to communicate OMS on the Pro Tools computer? Or is it possible to use my midisport 8x8 as a midi thru to another midi interface and computer enabling 2 way communication? Is there some way I haven't thought of?
Are there any other virtual analog synths like the AN1x that use a dedicated editor that I might consider?

Gothboy. Not sure I understand exactly, but a MIDISport 8 with some good MIDI software, like MIDIOX, will do you just fine. You can give each synth its own MIDI port and route it where every you want and merge it with whatever you want. I've never used a MIDISport 8; I use the Unitor8 which must be very similar. I have a MIDISport 2 and it works very well so I figure the 8 must work well too.

With an editor like Midi Quest, you can pretty much go for any hardware synth you fancy.

Alright.....first, Seraph: Very perceptive of you I must say because although it's the same sculpture, it's a different photograph from a different angle. I had to crop out most of the photo in order to upload it. So you get the "What is my avatar" award. What the award is I can't say at this time Laughing
Mosc, read my original post again. What I want to do is use my aging IMac bondi as a dedicated editor computer like I did with the older Mac(actually a Performa 6360) but with a synth that would only have 1 set of midi ins/outs as opposed to the Micro which has 2 sets. So if you use the modular with only one computer which also runs your sequencer/audio, imagine a computer right next to it with it's own interface which just runs the editor and you'll see what I'm trying to do. Maybe that's easier to visualize. So it would need its own interface.......but how can I split a midi signal? Or maybe I can use the Midisport 8x8 as a router.....to route a midi in and out to another smaller interface connected to the bondi. Let me know if I'm making sense or not. I'm using this idea because I'll be replacing the bondi soon but I like to use older computers for other things in my studio.

Yes, I think I understand better. The Midisport 8 can be used as a MIDI router/merger/splitter. You can read the manual on that m-audio site. It will work in standalone mode with several rounting presets.

Yes OS 9.2. Mosc, Thanks, yeah the midi router concept seems the way to do this, I set up a way to route midi to my 2 Roland DAWs but I'm still trying to figure out if I can send midi from the Midisport TO another interface. Rolling Eyes I guess it's possible?

I have used a midi patchbay linked to a midi interface for years.
