CBS Blocks Free Speach By Blocking Ad. |

CBS Censors Ads
During this year's Super Bowl, you'll see ads sponsored by beer companies, tobacco companies, and the Bush White House. But you won't see the winning ad in MoveOn.org Voter Fund's Bush in 30 Seconds ad contest. CBS refuses to air it. This is not a partisan issue. It's critical that our media institutions be fair and open to all speakers. CBS is setting a dangerous precedent, and unless we speak up, the pattern may continue. Watch the ad and join the call for CBS to air ads which address issues of public importance today.

That one was good. Several of them are quite good, I thought. Good ole' CBS. Maybe we can get them to compromise, and sell us the ad space instead, so that we can issue a PSA detailing how the space was initially to be used, and what was done at CBS to prevent it, or else we take the Survivors All Stars hostage.

Not at all surprising. Big-business has struggled long and hard to gain ownership of the US. Now that it has it, it's not going to let a little thing like the ethics of freedom of speech mess things up for them.
And why do you think they've converted news rooms to profit centers? Because it discourages people with ideals and ethics from getting into the news rooms where they might cause trouble. |

Freedom of speech... that one seems to be on the "endangered" list these days. BTW: I just saw that 60 minutes episode with general Anthony Zinni. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

how long will it take before electro-music rebels will be reduced to silence or we are simply too insignificant for the allmighty corporations _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Thanks, I looked up the 60-min Zinni interview, very worthwhile. That was, of course, done by CBS.
So if CBS is part of the corporate cabal why would they do that?
Guess I'll have to get serious here rather than just vent my spleen. From a recent "Scientific American" column by Michael Shermer: "Experimental psychologists have recently corroborated Bacon's idols, particularly those of the tribe, in the form of numerous cognitive biases. The self-serving bias, for example"...
The evils I raised are not so much plotted out consciously and explicitly. Rather they are the result of erroneous thinking directed by our inherent self-serving bias. Which is why the effect is not uniform and monolithic--there ain't no cabal in the literal sense. Hence CBS can censor the ad yet run the Zinni interview.
It seems to me that only shield against these evils is a functional democracy. And IMHO a functional democracy requires an educated electorate and some way of preventing money from being the dominant factor in determining the outcome of elections. Here in the US we are loosing the former and haven't the latter at all. Which is why we are in the mess in which we find ourselves.

About as long as it takes electro-music to become financially significant |
