MicroModular - OSX or OS9? Subject description: Given a choice of both, which is best to use? |
 |
|
Hi all,
For some time I've wanted to add a Nord Modular to my studio, just as another source of (hopefully cool and unique) sounds and also as a "different" audio effects processor. It would also be a good lesson in synthesis for this guitarist ! Finally, the 2nd hand prices are at a point where I can start thinking about getting a MicroModular.
Now obviously the free beta OSX Editor works reasonably well and after reading this forum a bit, it appears that plenty of people are using it. I downloaded it and had a play (obviously unconnected to an actual Nord) and it crashed a few times, once with the known Ctrl-click bug and other times just at random. I'm using 10.4.7 btw on PBG4s and a Dual G5, and I tend to stay up to date with OS updates.
Is the OSX beta more advanced than the OS9 version that it superceded? My question is that I can get an old Mac PPC 604 or G3 for next to nothing, and dedicate it to being the "Nord Controller" - is this perhaps a better option than using beta software?
Answers please!
Cheers, Ben. |

I suggest you grab one of those G3s and stick with OS 9 for the NM-1 editor. There is nothing missingin this one and it also is reaosnably bug free. The OS X editor beta is an aquired taste really and for the S&M experience thingie I still suggest joining some sort of well reputed club for consenting adults. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

the definition of "will last for a long time" in technological terms is a bit vague, don't you think so _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Cheers guys, thanks for the quick and decisive answer! Any excuse to fill the room with old Macs that are actually doing something (as opposed to the old IIfx and SE/30 there simply for aesthetics) is fine by me
