Hi there,
I would like to try a live gig doing some trance and ambient stuff. I´m a sax player and normally I play with the band some regular rock and pop stuff here at the med-coast in spain, but recently I prepared some loops and what I would need now, is some patches to change the sound of the sax. I´m not very familiar with all the filter, effect and vocoder patches, so if you could give me some recommendations to start with, I really would aprecciate this.
Greetings from spain, Michael.

Hook up your NM1 and try all of the effect modules one at a time. Take your time and learn as much as possible without feeling the need to build a finished processor patch.

Filters generally work best at the end of a chain.

I like to put a compressor in the front.

Ring Modulars are cool - route the carrier oscillator to the front panel for sure.

If you use a phase shifter or flanger, it should go at the end - an exception to the first statement.

Try controlling the filters and RM carrier with a sequencer or LFO.

Have fun and experiment.

Well, very true, but look, I´m very time limited and if I really want to understand how it works it certainly would need more time than I can spend on it. This is not an excuse, it´s a fact.
That´s why I thought, if someone with a clew, would recommend or send me some patches to give them a try, I wouldn´t need to fight me through tons of patches, not knowing if they work or not.

Again, all this information, I do aprecciate, but it is like pearls throwing to the pigs, I only used my NM for doing backup layers for the band, like a Hammond for instance. We do play a lot, drums and organ or keyboard come from tape, that´s what I do on the sequenzer.
It´s a pity to have this machine not using it´s potential.
I would be thankful to get a few patches that certainly work, together with a little information it would be a gift.
Thanks for understanding, Michael.

If you don't have time, maybe the NM isn't the right instrument for you.

True words - NM is not a kind of system you can judge after few presets - it is a thing that one would like to personalize as much as possible. You could do almost anything with it, but being hurry in this particular situation isn't really the best thing to do. If you're in such a "hurry-up" situation, try asking guys at your local music shop - they should know the best what would really fit your sax best - maybe some "guitar-style" pedal effect units would do the thing ?
