Weds 10th, Thurs 11th and Friday 12th of September 2003, London

Building on the success of the Modular 2002 event, The London College of Music and Media at Thames Valley University presents its yearly forum for creative modular systems in the form of the 'Modular 2003'.

For this year the schedule has expanded considerably including many more system representations. These include Reaktor, Nord Modular, Nord G2, Sync Modular, Vaz Modular, Kyma, Max/MSP, Jmax, Jsyn, Csound, Pure Data.

For booking and registration please follow the appropriate link. The all inclusive fee for the three days and concert is £50 (approx 78 Euros).

The schedule for the Modular 2003 is based on granular synthesis and spatialisation, hence the title "Time and Space", however, there are items on the schedule which are more general yet always relevant to modular creative systems. For 2003 we will be introduced to some exciting developments in 'artificial intelligence', 'artificial life and 'interactive live performance coding' to name a few.

As always, the particpants presenting the talks, workshops and performances are some of the very finest minds and creative spirits in sound design, computing and electronic creativity.

A key feature of this years event is the integration of analogue modular synthesizers in the form of a two day installation called 'The Modular Room'. The installation is a large space in which a full compliment of analogue modular synthesizers from the present and past are presented for viewing and listening. The hosts of these are analogue synthesis experts who will be present to allow for informal discussions and interaction with the systems.

Developments in this field are inevitably fast and excting. We look forward to these days three days in which we will all have a chance to see and hear the products of the furthest limits of creative exploration in modular synthesis and electronic medias. Pere Villez Project Director

A couple of Modular 2003 updates.

Ted Fletcher the legendary Joe Meek analogue outboard designer will be giving a talk on the friday morning of the event. Ted is now designer the 'Edward' compressor which you can find info at http://www.tfpro.com/products/info/13.php

Ted will be looking at analogue and tape saturation issues. This will be invaluable to digital modular effects and outboard designers.

The electronic music composer Howard Moscovitz and editor-in-chief of the online Electronic Music mag will be performing on the thursday concert. Howard has written extensive pieces for Modualr systems and acoustic instruments. You can hear some of his work at: http://www.mp3.com/mosc

Andrew East of the Music Producers Guild will also be giving a talk on the friday on a rather amazing classic sound technology. Details to be confirmed this week.

I will be getting in touch soon with regards the arrangements for the concert

many regards Pere
