today I presented my dissertation on "Music and New Technology" at the Conservatory of Music in Florence and received my Master's Degree (summa cum laude).
Those of you that attended Chateau Sonore in August 2007 saw a preview of today's presentation.

Congratulations, indeed Hail the Master well done I saw the news here http://www.seraph.it/news.html after listening to your virb page here http://www.virb.com/serafini

I needed a pick-me-up after a long week started by road travel (3300 km for two round trips to Canada so my son could come home and see his buddies during his only three day weekend before Christmas) and ended by some less than interesting software work. (The son part was well worth the effort.) Your gamelanX was the perfect antidote to a long day of work -- the bongos were on my lap, and I was playing along after just a few bars Nice interplay of percussion and tonality, gamelanX and Maqam Bayati in particular!

Have a good weekend celebrating!!!

I'm really impressed by your kind words, thanks Exclamation Now I am on this state of emptiness after 3 years working on this project. For me it has always been more difficult the period after reaching a goal than working toward it, nevertheless now is party time!

thanks

Congrats, belatedly, but congrats anyway. JE is working on a masters too. I hope hers goes as well as yours.

I didn't even know you were working on this. It makes sense of course.

Ah, that photo brings back memories from 17.5 years ago. Congratulations, and welcome to the club! One of the main benefits of finishing that degree for me was having more time to spend with the family, and having time for hobbies again.

Yep, 1990, maybe you and I graduated on the same weekend. I enjoyed reading your "Fixing a Hole" bio http://electro-music.com/article.php?t=225 a few weeks ago, by the way.

How was Berklee? I am trying to help my son figure out the next step after his 1 year in audio engineering school in Canada, and auditioning for Berklee on electric bass was one suggestion. He's busy focusing on the present year for now, good thing. They even have a banjo major up there at Berklee! But I have trouble getting even a week at a time for focusing on making music.

actually it was April 13th 1989 Embarassed I keep making the same mistake because after graduation I remained one more year at Berklee (for the so called "practical training") working as Lab Monitor on the Music Synthesis Department.

it was exciting. there were lots of students from all over the world playing/studying any kind of music. many great teachers/musicians. fond memories of those four years.
