Considering that i'll be mainly using it to record deep purple-like bands in pubs, which of the three will give the best sounding results?

Who can say. I suspect the results will be very good with each of these. I have an H2 and it makes superb recordings. I assume you are going to use the built-in mics. I have no complaints with the H2 and recommend it. It's absolutely amazing what you get for $200.

Each unit has it's own nice features and look/feel.

I recorded a punk band in a pub this weekend with the H2.

Here is a link for a sample. http://www.sendspace.com/file/9t5pua

I recorded it at CD quality. Then put it in Audacity, compressed/amplified it and then exported it as an mp3.

Because of room issues, this was actually not a direct line of sight to the PA speakers. I'm right now working on an earlier set that I was able to get a better angle for. I'll up that later.

The thing is awesome. I use it to record my radio shows to, I record myself talking notes to myself and then play them back later. I also use it to record rehearsals with pretty clean takes.

I picked this over the H4 because i wasn't going to use those extra mic jacks and it had more pick up pattern options. I don't think i looked too seriously at the Tascam.

I have used the H2 with external mics, the Soundman OKM-II - works great if you want to make binaural recordings. They are a bit expensive. I think the lower cost ones from Audio Technia etc. would be just as nice. http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category/110/mics
