I received this via email. It's about the electro-music.com AmbiophonicDSp that is for sale on the electro-music.com online store. See: http://electro-music.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/114

I'm sharing this on the forum because I'm very proud to receive this and there are a couple of good questions that are of general interest as well. I'm leaving the name off to respect the privacy of the fellow that sent this to me.

    Hello gentlemen,

I can't thank you enough for this amazing plug-in! Zounds, I am
rediscovering my Music Library, mp3's and all)! This needs shouting from the
rooftops. Almost literally - I don't want to turn my Shanling MC-30 SET
    tube/Rega R1 system off...

    Two questions if I may!

    1) which is your host of choice for the 'golden-eared' amateur? (Am using
Winamp. I also have MediaMonkey and AudioMulch Trial)
    2) is it safe to enable 24 bit playback (for my HD tracks). Certainly sounds
    fine ... after limited testing.

    A bonus question ...?

    3) Does the on-board VIA VT1708S 8-channel HD CODEC (on my ASUS P5Q mobo)
pass my HD tracks to my amp without downsampling them back to 16/44.1
anyway? (Win 7 OS). I 'imagine' they output as HD.

Thanks again, keep up the great work gentlemen.

Answer 1) Based on my experimentation, all of these players should have the same sound quality. You should use the one(s) that have the features and look/feel you prefer. If you are playing MP3, the decoder you are using will make a difference. I use LAME but there is some opinion that the Fraunhofer mp3 codec is the best. I know the guys that developed this one and they are superb engineers with excellent musical ears. It's worth a try.

Answer 2) Yes, go ahead and use 24 bit mode if your player enables this. The plugin will adjust to whatever sample rate and bit depth if finds for the input signal.

Answer 3) I don't know. I have a similar mother board and have used the internal converters. I think it sounds OK, but, if you use an external converter of high quality, you will probably be much happier. My recommendation is RME. Considering the quality of the hardware and the amazing features of the software, it is a bargain even though it is expensive. IMHO, it's well worth the extra money. They have new USB one called the Babyface. It's more reasonably priced than the earlier Fireware ones and it looks fabulous to me. The software for it is even better than what ships with the Firewire interfaces. In fact, we are working on a arrangement to sell these an the electro-music.com store (USA only).

Thanks for the wonderful comments. We're thrilled you like the AmbiophonicsDSP plugin.

Hi!

Any news of a fixed version that solves the problem of the delay setting not being properly saved? It is a shame that such as great piece of software is hampered by this small but anoying bug.

Regards,

Hi again Howard,

Suddenly a problem! Winamp, unannounced, today tells me that the ambiphonic dsp_vst.dll plugin I downloaded from you last year in not a "valid" vst plug-in. Odd, it has been working beautifully for months.

Grateful for any ideas,

Best,

Gareth Wilkinson
