I wish I knew Delphi or Java right now. Adding OSC control would be incredible when matched with TouchOSC on an iPad.

I'm not sure what you're referring to now, but a Java port will work on any platform supporting Java.... Smile

Python is great, very portable and free, but the GUI dev tools still could use a kick to get to the level of Delphi.

Now that Nokia owns the rights to QT (or PySide as it's now called), maybe that will happen.

Prior to that there were a few valiant efforts along those lines that didn't quite make it.

hey,

just wanted to let you know that I'm working on the project again.

I upgraded to windows 7. Started out that I wanted to put my computer in antother case so I could put it in a rack, but one thing led to another and I ended up having to buy everything new and upgrading from xp.

But no matter, fortunately everything also works on windows 7 the clavia software as well as the libusb alternative.

I've added the following functionality to the project:

- editting number of voices for a patch
- Midi CC assignment to knobs
- assignment of parameters to morph knobs
- uploading of performances

That last one was a pain in the a* because it turns out that you have to add a variation to the patches (10 variations) before it is accepted over usb by the G2.

So I'll take some time to make the code more readable and to work on the interface and the vst.

I may be hopelessly out off touch but what is OSC? I've seen some discussion about this. How would you envisage to integrate this with the edittor?

regards
Bruno

Ok. found that page also but I still would like to know how you would see this integrated in the editor Rolling Eyes

I guess somewhere in the future where all standing around a touch screen table patching a g2. That would be nice Smile

OSC is admittedly overkill. But extremely useful. It allows for native communications over networks, and also allows for 32-bit values and text strings without any problems. There is no bandwidth limit like MIDI...just the limits of your connection, so you can send audio-like information (at least information about VU meters, or compression amounts, like there exists in the editor). It's still open sound "CONTROL", so it's intended for control applications.

One can address parameters like such:
/g2/1/osc/5/freq/fine

Really nice. There's apps for the iPad, or reacTIVision, or MAX/MSP that use OSC to communicate over ethernet instead of MIDI cables. The latency is very good (little bit better than MIDI), and the overall speed is WAY better.

Just add an OSC pipe to your software so that it can forward clear informations to and from a remote control device (iPad app, Audiocube, Monome 40h, or just built up a MIDIcontroller based on MIDIBOX platform to emulate the G2 front panel for G2 Engine owner ...).

Building up an hardware user interface for virtual modular remains something ... difficult.

It should be "easy" if it was just a pipe to the parameter control pages.

The next step would be to directly control anything (not do patching, just control knobs, etc)...if anyone has the G2 keyboard, they know directly from the keyboard you can browse the modules and turn knobs that aren't assigned to the parameter pages or MIDI, without the editor. It would be a very similar thing...

I've been trying out some things with freepascal/lazarus and virtualbox. Don't know if any of you work with virtualbox, but it's great for running other operating systems on your pc and it's free.

So I've taken some time to make the source code to compile in freepascal and I've run it for the first time on ubuntu-linux. Still a lot of issues but it looks promising.

Communication over usb works, the interface to libusb1.0 is different than libusb-win32. Here's a screenshot, I can't patch anything yet, problems with the graphics also but at least they are rendered reasonably fast. With a lot of patience and effort I think this could work.

Thanks for your support, i needed that! The last week I've been through linux hell Evil or Very Mad , but I think/hope the worst part is over now.

Maybe I can't really blame linux, it's mainly because comming from windows I'm used to point and click, but in linux it's back to the terminal window.

On top off that I've some stability issues with Lazarus and an important control I'm relying on, the scrollbox is extremely buggy.

Then the usb interface is different, so had a lot of frustration there... Confused

But finally, it's working. So there we have it, the first g2 patch ever created on a linux machine! Very Happy Only problem is the slow graphics, but this can be solved by using bitmaps in stead of real time drawing.

I'm pouring myself a large one now, cheers! Wink

I think you deserve it! Smile

I have done little on the Java side of late due to being so busy on the music front, but I haven't forgotten about it, and hope to have some time in the next few weeks to make some progress and publish it.
