Our new server is on its way

I'm happy to announce that we have accepted delivery of a new dedicated server from a different hosting company. For the last couple of years we have been running on a shared server. Sometimes the performance was good, but many times the interactive response was poor. Since we shared the server with other websites, we suffered when they were busy.

We are moving to a new dedicated server. It's all ours. Well have more network bandwidth, faster CPU cycles, and more disk capacity. The net result will hopefully be a more consistent and pleasurable electro-music.com experience.

We will be busy little beavers for the next few days installing software, copying over the files, configuring and testing. I suspect the cutover will require at least two or three hours of downtime. We can announce that when we are farther down the road.

If you don't see much of me in the immediate future, you know why. Laughing

Total downtime was 1:15. Not too bad!

This is a big step for electro-music.com. Hopefully, with more server capacity and snappier performance, we will continue to grow and attract more members.

All the bugs on the test site had to be fixed again when I copied over the stuff from the old server. Many of the fixes were to the Linux config files to get the new httpd and php programs setup correctly, but there were lots of tiny nits in the database the needed to be changed. Hopefully, I don't have to do this too many times...
