This might just be because I'm a bit tired, but I got this weird behavior whilst messing about with a noise-drive bincounter. Look at this patch. The noise module goes through a s&h, via a couple of inactive modules in to the trig input of a OscPerc, that is piped to output, but there is no sound. If you activate the high-pass filter you get sound, as if you convert the signal from positive to bipolar, which leads me to believe that the noise signal is offset upwards. But it shouldn't be, should it? Is the G2 confused by the orange cable going from the BinCounter module?

OMG Shocked As I was writing this, and looking at the help file for the S&H, the sound came on, without me really doing anything in the editor! Now I don't know what to believe - am I being delusional?

Ehm... I'll submit the post anyway. Maybe someone can see something? Has anyone had a similar ghostly experience? dunno

/Stefan

Tiredness, I'm sure ... but wait ... what about the ghostly experience ...

You clock on the noise itself, a clock will occur when the signal goes from 0 to >0, so indeed you always sample the noise when it's positive - it does fluctuate though in it's positiveness so the filter works to make it audible.

Is it OK now when I move this out of the bugs section?

... but wait .. what about the ghostly experience ... that one would be the bug maybe ... hearing noise would mean repeated triggers for the perc osc. I cAN'T EXPLAIN THAT ...oops sorry for the caps, but the ghost just came in here as well Shocked Laughing

I can only explain this with an untested hypothesis

untested .. but repeatable ... after a while apparently very quickly after the positive edge immediately a negative one follows and due to timing delays that one can be sampled ... I didn't have the patience yet to see if the ghost would stop again ...

Nice find Exclamation

I've listened to this for over an hour now, the ghost once there seems to not go away.

Here is my patch, yup, over an hour I listened to that, and not to what you hear when you open it, but to what happens when the ghost steps in Very Happy

Thanks for checking this out. Very Happy Great to know that ...something is repeatable. I like your second patch - will check it out later to see what happens when (if) the issue kicks in.

I understand now how the signal ends up in the positive, and what I thought was a bug was indeed the correct behavior. It's not that often that you start writing a bug report before the actual bug has even happened! Laughing

wow! Jan, that last patch is amzing.

I can get great things by adjusting the controls on modules I have no idea as to their function and it keeps playing beautiful tones.

What a great cracklebox. Very Happy

Well, Jan, I'm not going to do that. I'll tell you why.

This circuit reminds me of Rob's Bleepobox, or whatever he calls it. His thingie has about 20 knobs that who knows besides Rob what they do, and he says he sometimes can't remember. The nice thing is that the Bleepobox keeps on playing with almost any combination of settings. It just changes it's tune slightly.

Your patch is something like that. So, a variation is like a snapshot of a sunset, in this case. I have found that, except for rare occasions - like the sunset on the beach in The Hague at the modular meeting in 2004 - it's better just to relax and enjoy it as sunset progresses, rather than trying to capture it with a camera which involves exposure, framing, etc.

That said, here is a version of your patch. I changed some stuff. I don't remember exactly, and did some knob assigments. It just uses pages A1 and A2. More knobs could be assigned but this is a good thing nonetheless. There are 8 variations but the idea is to turn the knobs, not use the variations.

Some changes to Blue Hell's patch and bringing controls to the A1 and A1 pages. This is sort of a playable noodle, or a playable interlude music maker.
