Wow, how did you slip by with 9 posts and never get an official
Keep up the patching! Release effects always remind me of old harpsicord patches, yet completely different. I like when they're combined with arpeggiators...makes you sound like a mean keyboardist (which I'm not) |

i doubt that this patch would ever remind you of a harpsichord.
but i may have gotten a little heavy-handed with a few settings.
if you'd like to 'tone it down' a little, just look for the mod envelopes and turn down the release and release mod stages.
instead of starting another thread, i'd like to ask:
for those of you who are proficient with the G2, how long did it take you to get there?
there's so much to explore and there's so much i don't 'get' yet.
just have to keep experimenting, i guess.
also, is this the right place to put patches?
i see there are separate patch areas, but they're locked. |

This patch doens't sound like a harpsicord to me.
This forum isn't for patches. I'd call this one an experimental patch because it doesn't have all of the variations completed. It probalby should go the experimental patch forum.
Wildbill, what do you mean the forums are locked? _________________ --Howard

"This forum is locked: you cannot post, reply to, or edit topics"
this line is at the bottom of the 'completed' G2 patch area when i go it and there is a 'locked' button where there would normally be a 'post' button.
i just went to the 'experimental' patch area and i don't see this message.
i just posted 2 more basic patches, but don't want to be putting them in the wrong area - also, is it better to have completed variations? |

ok, so the 'threads' aren't locked, but i still don't see any 'post new topic' type thing - no, i'm not high, just a little dense, maybe? |

yes, it's there in the 'experimental' forum, but not in the 'completed' forum - i assumed maybe only the moderators could put stuff there. |

The completed forum is really a category for many sub-forums where you can put patches. Only admins can add new forums, that's why it's locked. We are trying to keep the patches as organized as we can because it makes it easer to search for them - the individual forums are usefull for identification. Moderators can move patches from one forum to another if appropriate. _________________ --Howard

Maybe I didn't stress the "yet completely different" part. It feels odd to play at first, but once you really stick to the release sounds, I always felt they become part of your playing. Much like strumming a guitar...once you start using an "upstroke", it's impossible for that not to effect your melody. I once had a patch for my NM1 that used the foot pedal to bring in & out a release sound...you remind me I should repatch it for the G2.
Anyway, I've found to get proficient (which now that I've sold my NM1 for a G2 I'm am no longer) in understanding not only every module available, but how they might be used in odd contexts. The big thing is teaching yourself how to break down something you want to accomplish in terms of the Nord. Since many problems have already been "solved" on the NM1, you can start there by looking at those patches (particularly the "Interesting Threads" section, and apply those to the G2. That is located here:
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/010_NordModular/014_Interesting_Threads/
Don't forget, there are usually more than one way to solve the same problem (as you'll see in that link), so once you get 1 solution, try to look how to "optimize" it, or find a completely different way.
Of course, "improvised patches", creating something with no particular goal just to see what happens, is also easy, lots of fun, & educational. |

Not only is there more than one way to solve a problem, but it's OK to focus on one or two ways. There are some excellent patchers that specialize and become very good at a few techniques and my not be even familiar with others. That's OK... _________________ --Howard
