June Solstice 2016 live streaming event. Subject description: Signup is closed |
 |
|
Calendar Event: June 25, 2016 Time for another June Solstice event
The event will be on electro-music radio on Saturday Jun 25 2016.
It will probably start at 15:00 GMT and end at 00:00 GMT but we can extend the timing
if there are enough people signing up.
Stream ops please respond if you able to help switch and what time range you are available.
No really, it would be nice to have some more people to help with switching duties.
As always, if you are interested in performing, please copy/paste this Sign-Up template and post in this thread:
1. Preferred Start Time (Please use GMT/Military Time):
2. Set Length (30 or 60 minutes):
3. Artist Name (For displaying on the poster):
4. Chat Name (if different from artist/forum name):
5. Location (City/State/Country - Optional):
6. Description (Style/Genre/Equipment, etc. - Optional):
7. Website Address:
8. Anything else you like to mention:
For reference, this clock could be useful:
First Time Streamers Please Read:
Please review the Electro Music Copyright Policy
Please note: "Preferred Start Time". We will do the best that we can to accommodate people to their requested times. However, please be flexible because this event will have European and American musicians in many different time zones. Time slots will be on a semi-"first come-first served" basis. Furthermore, please post your time in GMT. The handy clock should make it simple. However, we do use military/24 hour time. It will undoubtedly be an international event and GMT is the only way to coordinate such events.
As in the past, the chat room will serve as an invaluable communication tool for set up, streaming, and connecting to those listening....and it's just a lot of silly fun! I suggest participants get familiar with it in advance, if you aren't already.
If you want a recording of your set, it would be prudent to record your own set, rather than depend on others. Accidents and mistakes happen...especially in this format. There are many ways to record your set, either thru the stream app or record your stream from your mixer on the signal path to the computer.
Performers MUST stream at 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz , stereo.
more info about broadcasting on radio.electro-music.com can be found here.
It is IMPERATIVE that everyone test their connections before we start streaming. At least 24 hours before but sooner is preferred. Sorry, but we can not guarantee that musicians will be allowed to stream if you do not test 24 hours before hand. Not only does it delay the schedule, but causes unneeded stress on performer, server operator, and audience during performance time. Join the chat room for testing and help setting up. _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"

8. Anything else you like to mention: Thanks, PHOBoS!
From the No World (The No World Symphony) is a 60-minute No-Input Mixer Piece (a.k.a. Zero-Input Mixer or ZIM) culled from 4 live improvisation sessions, 3 taking place during the week after the end of my spring classes about a month ago, and the other earlier in the spring. Music is usually boiling to get out of me by end of semester; 2014 and 2015 each saw one new substantial piece for acoustic banjo, but this year it's ZIM. This set is recorded strictly as played live, with no dubbing, and no editing other than cutting away some mundane sections as I was settling into the groove, and then abutting the 4 sections. I have been posting ZIM workouts both before and after this piece on this Composition thread, but this is the most satisfying (to me) recording I have made in a while. It is basically a set of ZIM voices from three mixers, with some post-ZIM, post-feedback effects in Live, having two- and three-way interlaced conversations across the space of an hour.

Please note that I have changed the performance to audio only and using an orientation controller in a 3D printed dodecahedron enclosure. I am developing this controller and some simple musical response in the week's time prior to the event (with the help and encouragement of sonic in the chatroom). Fun!

8. Anything else you like to mention: It's me, Les (AKA CreatorLes && AKA Inventor), and a word on equipment...
The physical form of this device is a dodecahedron that is 3D printed. It contains an ESP8266 WiFi IoT HUZZAH module from www.adafruit.com and a 9DOF sensor also from Adafruit. In software will be a Processing sketch to receive the absolute orientation data from the electronics and transmit the numeric stream as OSC data for ChucK to receive and act upon. Completing the picture we have Nicecast streaming the music from ChucK to the electro-music.com server.
The plan is to get minimal functionality over USB initially, then add WiFi and battery operation such that the device can become an enclosed dodecahedron with no buttons or wires - just a ball to be moved about, tossed around, or rolled like dice. Neato!

Yes, thanks, I downloaded a copy of Nicecast and they still had my old key on file so I won't need to broadcast out my "Butt", lol. Nobody wants me to do that! Bad joke but whatever. Maybe the YouTube, I'll have to practice this a bit. Ty.

Yep. How lame did the original IBM PC seem for using that architecture and chip, when the Motorola architecture of the time was so much better? Little did we know, Intel knew how to market. _________________ When the stream is deep
