June Solstice 2018 live streaming event Subject description: signup is closed |
 |
|
Just another month and it will be summer (or winter) again so as usual we'll be celebrating the solstice with a live streaming event.
The event will be on electro-music radio on Saturday June 23th 2018.
It will probably start at 15:00 GMT and end at 00:00 GMT but we can extend the timing if there are enough people signing up.
Stream ops please respond if you're able to help switch and what time range you are available.
No really, it would be nice to have some more people to help with switching duties.
As always, if you are interested in performing, please copy/paste this Sign-Up template and post in this thread:
1. Preferred Start Time* (Please use GMT/Military Time):
2. Set Length (30 or 60 minutes):
3. Artist Name (For displaying on the poster):
4. Chat Name (if different from artist/forum name):
5. Location (City/State/Country - Optional):
6. Description (Style/Genre/Equipment, etc. - Optional):
7. Website Address:
8. Anything else you like to mention:
*a time window would also be very helpful but I will try my best to give everyone their prefered time slot.
For reference, this clock could be useful:
I will update the schedule along the way and it can be found at the wiki page for this event.
First Time Streamers Please Read:
Please review the Electro Music Copyright Policy
Please note: "Preferred Start Time". We will do the best that we can to accommodate people to their requested times. However, please be flexible because this event will have European and American musicians in many different time zones. Time slots will be on a semi-"first come-first served" basis. Furthermore, please post your time in GMT. The handy clock should make it simple. However, we do use military/24 hour time. It will undoubtedly be an international event and GMT is the only way to coordinate such events.
As in the past, the chat room will serve as an invaluable communication tool for set up, streaming, and connecting to those listening....and it's just a lot of silly fun! I suggest participants get familiar with it in advance, if you aren't already.
If you want a recording of your set, it would be prudent to record your own set, rather than depend on others. Accidents and mistakes happen...especially in this format. There are many ways to record your set, either thru the stream app or record your stream from your mixer on the signal path to the computer.
Performers MUST stream at 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz , stereo.
more info about broadcasting on radio.electro-music.com can be found here.
It is IMPERATIVE that everyone test their connections before we start streaming. At least 24 hours before but sooner is preferred. Sorry, but we can not guarantee that musicians will be allowed to stream if you do not test 24 hours before hand. Not only does it delay the schedule, but causes unneeded stress on performer, server operator, and audience during performance time. Join the chat room for testing and help setting up.

The piece is anchored using the same melody as *Take Cover* in the electro-music NYE webcast of 2009-2010. For that I used my Godin xtsa MIDI guitar & Scrabble-to-MIDI for accompaniment. For this I am redoing the instrumentation (zero-input mixers and a couple of banjos) and using acoustic instrument backing tracks morphed in Live 9. Also using a melody written by my son Jeremy that we played in the Kutztown University Planetarium in September 2011. _________________ When the stream is deep

Subject description: stream check, etc. |

No one to check my port 8088 at the moment, but as long as I have electricity, that's never been a problem. Apparently our ISP is good for something!
Below is my pic to use for this event. I am using the same melody as the one that Jeremy Parson wrote for our September 2011 planetarium gig, with Michael O'Bannon on visuals. Stefan "Antimon" Blixt once posted that he really liked the bass line in this recording, which was a loop of Jeremy's Fender Strat run through an octave pedal, so I recorded a walking acoustic bass line in honor of Antimon as one of my backing tracks for next Saturday's event. There is also my solo set from when someone canceled their set at electro-music 2011 a few days later, at the end of Friday night, very different arrangement.
Next weekend's is a completely new arrangement driven by this melody. I have been playing with dogs around my feet before bedtime for the last few weeks, hit the Record button when things were going well, so this gig is 3 different prerecorded performances, adjusted only for levels & stitched together. I wasn't satisfied with my March Solstice completely improvised set, so when things started flowing over the last few weeks I figured, what the hell?
PHOBoS, this full set lasts 35:30, so if I have the final set of the event and you want to let me run on another 5 minutes 30 seconds, there is some worthwhile stuff in there. If that doesn't work, I'll just fade out at 30 minutes & post the full set the next day. Thank you so much!

Semi-live stream for the Marsupials |
 |
|
Hey folks
Really looking forward to the live stream on Saturday!
In the spirit of fair play - I do want to mention that due to some scheduling issues (aka - family obligations!) all 3 members of Balloon Marsupials were not available on Saturday afternoon (EST)....
So we are going to record our hour of performance on Friday night and stream the recording on Saturday. I hope this isn't considered cheating ;-)
Cheers
