I'm used to the micromodular where yellow (logic) and blue (control) signals used very little dsp ressources in a patch, but with the G2 these modules all self update to audio b/w and use up a lot more dsp than before. in my case this means 'less' dsp power on a g2 patch than on a micro modular!

my patches worked just fine at a lower sample rate, so this seems like wasting cycles.

so my question: is there a way to downsample a red cable into a blue one, or make sure a yellow stays yellow and doesn't turn orange?

Hi duracel, welcome to the forum.

Yes you can downsample by using a note quantizer module, just leave it at its default settings. This will save an amazing amount of DSP resources sometimes !

just an example:

patchload figures

cycles 87.0 memory 67.2

after downsampling using note quantizer

cycles 42.2 memory 72.7

WOW!

I've used the notequantizer module on audio signals before for the downsampling effect, but it never quite clicked that this would also save dsp (even though the blue cables were staring me in the face Smile). Thanks Jan!

Is this still true? I tried it with the "Welcome G2" patch and nothing happened.

I have used this method in a performance before... it was very strange at times! When sending control signals over a bus, sometimes I found that I had to scale the quantiser module to half, third, etc. depending on the voice count! At other times, the pitch would sound wrong and I'd have to put the value back to full! I was going to post at the time, but couldn't repeat the problem in a simpler patch, so I didn't bother. This post just reminded me.

Hm. I just wonder if there's a generale rule. Can anybody name a patch where inserting the quantizer works wonder? Like diminishing the patch load by 50% as described above?

I needed four to get this patch to work... I had no chance without them!
