Some guy on local TV explained why the iphone would never work in this market (NZ). We only have two cell networks and both offer music download as part of their service. The itunes store would cut into this growing market so Apple has virtually no chance of getting a carrier.

I mentioned this in another thread, but don't forget: When Apple announced that their cell phone company was to be Cingular, Cingular was purchased by AT&T - or should I say, AT$T. Wait - I think that was a Star Wars reference.

Well, AT&T was actually purchased by SBC, a decendent of one of the original Baby Bells. SBC bought Cingular and has decided (unwisely IMHO) to use the AT&T brand name for their entire new mega corporation. I think Cingular has a much better brand name than AT&T. Many customers and former customers get the urge to vomit when they hear AT&T.
