I'll be laying down a "dirty disco" (electro/electroclash) set at Revenant this Thursday! Revenant is held upstairs at Goosebumps Lounge, 311 S. 7th Street in Philadelphia! I go on at midnight. Come on out and get your electro groove on!

http://grendelsden.home.mindspring.com/revenant/

What to expect from me: Fischerspooner, Ladytron, Miss Kittin, Peaches, Electrocute, DJ Assault, Client, Soviet, Mount Sims, Chicks on Speed, Avenue D, Dirty Sanchez, Felix da Housecat, and more (if time permits)!

Cheers,
DJ Pussy Galore

As someone who seems to be familiar with "electro" music, could you give us a definition or description?
I know that it's a genre of dance music.
Electro-music.com is clearly broader, but people new to the site may not realize that.

In a nutshell, the brand of music I will be spinning is basicly modernized disco/ electro dance music. It incorporates a lot of the same techniques and values from early 80s electro, and gives it a kick. Sure, a lot of the focus is on the style (fashion & lifestyle) and performance -- Hell who doesn't like a good visual show to go along with their music? And often the topics of these songs are silly, tongue-in-cheek, cheesy, and sleazy.

At any rate, it's finally catching on here in Philly. I liked some of the artists, but didn't know there was an actual genre name developing for it. Then I discovered people using the term "electroclash". So.. why not?

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I need to run. I'll post more again later! Smile

I'm going to be in Philly, on 7th Street even, on Thursday night for another event. I'd love to check out your show. I just want to make sure I get the time right. You say you go on at midnight. That's technically Friday morning. Is that right? I don't want to show up 24 hours late. Laughing

Yes, technically it would be Friday morning. Heheh.

So, say, 24 hours from RIGHT NOW (it's Wednesday night at 9:40pm) I will be at Goosebumps Lounge waiting to go on!

I will be nervous as hell since I'm actually getting good feedback on this. Eep. So if everybody shows up who says they are going to show up... there will be a nice little crowd. Wink I just hope everybody who comes out has a good time and enjoys my blend of "dirty disco" (electro groove thang). LOL[/i]

Um, OK! I'm a bit bashful (despite the "dirty disco" music I play), though. Please come up to me and say hello and introduce yourself as the guy from electro-music.com! Smile

Mare at the controls
On Thursday night we went down to Goosebumps Lounge in South Philadelphia to check out Mare's "dirty Disco" session. We got there about 15 minutes before Mare was to go on. She recognized me immediately and introduced herself. It was nice meeting her. She started spinning a midnight sharp.

Goosebumps is a really nice place. There are really two bars, one upstairs and one down. Upstairs, there is a nice sized room with plenty of very comfortable couches around a small dance floor. This would be a good place for live electronic music performances. Maybe Mare can help us explore somthing.

There were several people there were done up "in Goth"; some were stunning actually. I felt quite "in" with my black tee shirt and black pants. Well, "in" takes on new meaning when you're 57. Anyhow, most people ignored me just the same as if I were 25, but at 57 is doesn't bother me as much.

The sound system at Goosebumps is very good and the level of the music was just right. There were some nice computer graphic animations, probably winamp plugins, on a big screen when Mare first started, but the fellow with the laptop packed up and we ended up watching what appeared to be some modern horror movie with the movie sound turned off, of course. It made for an interesting effect.

Mare can tell you what she played. She said it was a lot of 80s stuff. I'd not heard this music before although I did live through the 80s. It was all very powerful dance music with strong beats. I could not understand most of the lyrics, but occasionally something funny, sexy or very disturbing with come through. The music was definitely electro-music. Lot's of great sounds and textures.

We had a good time and we thank Mare for inviting us. The picture of Mare at the controls is a blur for more than artistic effect. Mare really gets into the music. That's a beautiful thing....

I'm glad my "dirty disco" (modern electro/electroclash) was interesting enough for you to stay awhile! No 80s and nothing experimental or extremely electro this time, but I can spin that, if need be. Smile

The setlist for the entire evening, including my own set as DJ Pussy Galore, may be found here: http://grendelsden.home.mindspring.com/revenant/playlist.htm

Thank you so much, mosc. For coming out (with your lovely wife) and writing about the night. It means a lot to me! And I sure do hope we can meet up again. Smile Smile

*hugs*

Winamp 2.91 + MilkDrop 1.03, to be exact. I'm done at midnight, at which point the Movie of the Week[tm] goes on.

Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated.

I will vouch for staticvoid's visuals. They are very intense and fun to watch as they "bounce" around to the music. All done on his laptop, connected to the projector, they add depth and stimulation as you groove to the music. A full multi-media experience, if you will.

I'm working on a new night, where visuals will be an integral part to the electro music soundscapes you hear. Once I have more information on the place and time, I will surely let all of you know.

And suggestions, as always, are welcome.
