Prototype Patch Archive Summary Page |
 |
|
I have thrown together as simple php file that automatically builds a simple flat list of patches from those posted on the forum. I invite anyone who is interested to take a look at it. Here is the link:
http://electro-music.com/g2patches-prototype.php
This is just a prototype, it is incomplete and ugly, but it shows me and hopefully you that one can easilly get patches listed and organized in useful ways. This is an automatically generated list. When a new patch is added as an attachment, it shows up immediately.
I'm thinking it may be useful to have the patches date listed. I wonder what people think?
Does this seem more like a patch archive?
Of course we need sorting and search capability, but that can be added in due course. With only a handfull of patches, sorting isn't too important.
Notice how nice it is to click on the topic and see the discussion. I think that's what this is all about.
Note that your browser will change the links after you have visited them too. You can see at a glance if you've loaded a patch or visited the discussion topic. |

php is a great idea. Adding dates would be good, but a seperate version that organizes them by forum/date would help people find the latest patches at a glance. |

Datestamping patches |
 |
|
Datestamping the filename of the patch is imho a great idea. The point is that patches get downloaded and stored about everywhere. Then it is really hard to refind the source.
What I personally do when downloading a patch is rename the patches with a refernce and date received in the name. I do it like this: a patch named Bubbles.pch2 received on this forum is renamed by me to Bubbles_(G2F_15-04-2004).pch2. So, if I store this patch in my machine or in a folder somewhere I can later easily refind the source. Well, six years of classic Nord Modular has taught me a thing or two, especially in handling bulks of patches...
Btw all mentioned patches are fictional and show no resemblance to any real persons, dead nor alive. |

That's a good idea. The Patch Archive Summary page will have search capabilities, as soon as I get around to it. I envision a text box where you can type in a string to match in a patch name, or even in the post text or the comment.
Doesn't seem a high priority to do that now when you can see all of the patches on one page.
Suggestions are very much appreciated. Now's the time for them. Thanks in advance. |
