I really don't think it's going to happen- ie selling new G2 units.

Is that what happened in the UK? You cannot buy a brand new G2 there anymore?

You certainly can in the US. Check this out:

http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=nord+modular+g2&um=1&ie=UTF-8

In my dreams, each and every store selling a brand new Nord Modular G2 would have a disclaimer saying "WARNING: Not compatible with Windows Vista or Intel Macs".

Don't get me wrong. I love my G2 too, and am keeping a PowerMac around so I can keep using the Editor software. But I feel for any Windows Vista or Intel Mac owner who buys a G2 without being informed on the issues.

G2X is another story (much harder to come by one of those)

Editor works fine on my Intel Mac. Hope there is something in store for us at NAMM. I am very excited using the G2 as it is, bugs and all, it's the best system and easiest to use by far of anything I have ever used.

It works fine, but it's a real cpu-hog...and sometimes loses the usb-connection...

I emailed Clavia support before the new year about the future of the G2 software and still have not had a reply.

I would have happily purchased a G2 by now, had I not been bitten by Clavia's abandonment of the original Nord Modular on the cusp of OS X and XP. The features are pretty compelling. The fact that they had a "beta" of the OS X editor as far along as they did, but chose not to put in the work to finish it off, meant to me that they were not serious about supporting their users. I think it's an example of "penny wise, pound foolish". They may have gotten the G2 out the door a little sooner, but they lost at least one customer in the process.

Bottom line: I like the products, but don't trust the company

I think the cancellation of the G2x was writing on the wall for us, we just didn't see it that way.

I received an email from Clavia on December 12, saying (among other things) that G2 expansion cards are still being manufactured.

I'm looking at buying a used g2x - am I correct in reading that the editor will not work on my MacBook Pro Intel?

The G2X - not G2 - this will not work either? Even under Rosetta? Even if I upgrade to Leopard?? Say it isn't so! Crying or Very sad

So, Seraph - will I need to upgrade to Leopard to run the G2X editor on my MacIntel?

With this editor (sorry for all the questions, but info on this unit is minimal on the net, at least as concerns my travels thus far), it is used to create sounds, but does it function as a type of plug-in with the sequencer (I use Logic), like a softsynth/AU would? or do I need to send midi out to the synth and then playback and record as audio to actually record the midi data being played back in whichever voice?

With the softsynths I've been using, I can assign the sound to a track and bounce the MIDI to audio pretty seamlessly. I'm curious what the intermediate step with this type of setup will be, because it seems as if there should be one. Otherwise, the editor would just be another softsynth and the board would function just as a fancy MIDI controller, no?

To properly record with this, I need a MIDI interface, or an audio interface? Or both? I already have a USB MIDI controller, so I wouldn't need to use the Nord for that, though I assume it's capable of doing that as well. It's the sound of it that interests me. It has a very distinct, hot, redder sound to me than other modeling synths.

I've been playing keys for awhile, and am very familiar with the technicalities of synthesis, but I'm pretty new to recording (as I'm sure is evidenced by my questions). Any hand-holding (or links to resources that will hold my hand) is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for making my day, Seraph! Hope still!

welcome psychotropy

You will find a lot of info about this if you search and browse this forum.

I run the G2 Editor on my MacBook Pro - I haven't upgraded to Leopard yet.

The USB connection is for the editor only. You need to connect MIDI cables and audio cables to the hardware to make those things work.

/Stefan

I plan on going to the Clavia booth if they are at NAMM. I'll try to find out if a new OS is planned, released or in the works.

Not all 6 pages, no.
Since you seem to already know the answer, I won't bother asking.

In an email to at least one person, Clavia stated there would not be any more updates for the G2.;(

Well, at least find out what they plan to do about a driver for Vista. Since people report that the G2 editor does work OK with OSX, the the Vista driver seems to be the most critical need.

I've not received any response from my emails to Clavia.

Considering the heavy critisism of Vista I wouldn't rule out the chance that we'll see a future update there that will have a button saying "I know the risks and would still like to use this non-signed driver".

Apparently, signed drivers checking can turned off.

I don't have a winVista64 box to try it, but it should work.

here:

http://searchwincomputing.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid68_gci1254912,00.html

Someday, I will try to install the g2 on my girlfriend vista32 laptop, I may be wrong, but I think it should work because vista32 don't require signed drivers, only vista64( and even then it can apparently be turned off ).

:::::::::::::::::: DON'T READ!!! IF YOU ARE SENSIBLE:::::::::::::::::::::::::

I think all this update thread is becoming ridiculous, we are becoming like dogs asking for bone.I mean is it right to let NM G1&G2 users like this, begging for a driver?????? SHAME ON YOU CLAVIA!!! You are becoming such a BIG Money Maker Company(not small anymore)... I still love my Nord Modulars BUT I DON'T LIKE YOU ANYMORE Evil or Very Mad

and....Thanks FOR YOUR SUPPORT Laughing

PS:It is an unproductive post, but...it was sooo goood to say it Embarassed

I agree, you have rights. Clavia's promotional material based on which many bought their instrument promised updates, if there are no updates Clavia didn't deliver what it offered for sale.

IANAL but I believe this to be a crime and that begging isn't a good responce.

Yeah. I think that it's possible that people could sue Clavia for not delivering what was promised but it doesn't matter as I don't think anybody has money or the time to spare for that and it's not clear Clavia could deliver if they wanted to so it doesn't matter that much, to me.
