Quote:
Apple Chief Financial Officer Fred Anderson said in July that the music store could be a "trojan horse" for getting more people to buy iPods.

it's always the same story: the software is used to sell the hardware to run it.

The company has used a similar strategy with programs such as iPhoto and iMovie, offering the programs for free as a way to sell more Macs

True, but it also says something about the potential profits of selling music online. Of course the iPod needs content.. Very Happy

One interesting fact about iMovie and iPhoto is that those two apps probably have sold a lot of digital camcorders and digital cameras... and macs. i have a lot of PC owning friends who have always have had problems with movie edting and downloading digital pix to their harddisks. Some of those guys have bought macs after I have shown them how iMovie and iPhoto works. One guy spent 3 weeks looking for the proper drivers for his USB camera and found he had to buy a new CD from the vendor for like 150 USD. Then he discovered that the mac had all the drivers already ( iphoto ) and bought a a mac then a new camera and then a new digital camcorder. He is pretty indifferent to the computer as such.. he just wanted something which feels easy. I haven´t dared to show him the terminal yet Smile
