Step-sequencing other synth from G2 |
 |
|
Hello from France where the weather is beautifull today,
I would like to use my G2X as a midi step sequencer for an external midi synthesizer. For that, I am looking for a way to send for examples 3 sequences (3 rows) via midi out port. I have to assign a midi number (CC) to each sequence in the G2X, but I don't know how to do it ... Do you think it's possible ? If yes, it's very good, because I won't have to buy a Doepfer Maq 16/3
Thank you for your help. |

Aww that's easy:
Make three level sequencers, patch each one to a seperate controller send module, switch the send channel on the controller send module to the same one as the unit you are trying to control.
Patch an LFO or ClkGen 1/16 into the Clk inputs of the sequencers and if necessary patch sync or Clk Active output of the ClkGen to the Rst input of each sequencer.
N thats it really.
I would make you a patch but I am at work. _________________ iP (Ross)

Ok, thank you iPassenger ; I don't know how to use the midi modules ... after work, if you find time, perhaps could you send an example ? (if not, don't worry, I will find it by myself... ) |

Nice one, glad I could help
If you use the "Clk Active" to reset the sequencers rather than the "sync", you can then have each sequencer play a different length pattern and build some really complex poly rhythm style sequence lines. _________________ iP (Ross)

Yes, it's very interesting
Just one more question : actually, each step are played ... how can I do to program sequences in wich only few steps will be played (for example, if we take a phrase of 8 steps, and if we would like to play only the steps number 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 ) ?

You'll need a sample and hold for each sequencer.
Wire from the gate out of the sequencer into the trig input of the S&H and the control output of the sequencer into the other S&H input. Then wire from the sample and hold output to your controller send module.
Now only when you create a trigger on the sequencer will the control value be sent to the midi controller send module and the value will hold until it receives another trigger. _________________ iP (Ross)

how is the sequencing going?
Me, I too am into sequencing with the G2. Just love the interface. Let us know if you have any questions or what you are doing with the sequencers.
Me, I use a master sequencer brain in 1 G2 with my drums and mixer for the external gear, with a 2nd G2 for an extra panel and sequencers for simultaneous multi track live editing/tweaking. Driving drums, sub, a x0xb0x and Blofeld (with samples, soon). Great for Minimal progressive electro/trance
Here is what it sounds like:

I am currently sequencing my Virus TI with the G2.
My quad G5 died, and financially beyond repair. I'll be replacing it with a new macbook pro, but until I scrounge up the funds for that, I am stuck with just my hardware. I am using a computer that is sluggish at best, even to surf the net.
So sad.
Anyways, I couldn't sit still without making music... so I put together a simple sequencer setup to keep me busy. I've been having fun just jamming on hardware... but now I am itching to record it, and start cutting things up, and producing it... and I can't!
Soon though... |
